The Rockmart High School Yellow Jackets baseball team picked up their second straight win on Wednesday, this time downing Armuchee 12-2 in five innings.
“The attitude of the players is better,” head coach Courtney Hammock said. “I have always told the kids that they have to play hungry. I was proud last night of the kids character and attitude that they showed. This is something that we are really pushing at RHS to our kids and last night they displayed great character and attitude.”
Rockmart (3-5) used a strong pitching performance from Tritt Fennell to pick up the win. Fennell pitched the complete game, striking out five while allowing only four hits.
“Defensively, we played a better game as well, although there is still room for improvement,” Hammock said.
Offensively, Luke Hembree had three hits and drove in six runs to pace the Yellow Jackets. Alex Baldwin had three hits, including a home run, and three RBI. Fennell had two hits and two stolen bases while Will Deems had a two-run hit, Cullen Boswell had an RBI hit, Chet Miller record a hit and Dalton Gowens drove in a run.
“We are playing better as a team, but we can still improve and continue to play better as a team,” Hammock said.
Rockmart will host Cass on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in a non-region game.
