The final full day of the regular season is likely to feature plenty of emotion and intensity.

Two teams from Floyd County (Armuchee and Model) are both still in the mix for the final playoff spot from Region 7-AA, while one other local team (Coosa) will be hoping to improve its playoff seed today.

Although Pepperell has already clinched the region title and a No. 1 seed for the state playoffs, the other spots are still up in the air.

The scenarios, according to the local coaches, break down like this:

* If Model defeats Chattooga today at home, the Devils will be the No. 4 seed. But if Model loses and Armuchee wins at Dade County, the Indians will grab the No. 4 seed.

* If Coosa defeats Murray County today at home, and Calhoun falls to Pepperell (in Calhoun), Coosa would grab the No. 2 seed for the state tournament.

That would be significant because it would ensure the Eagles of getting to host a first-round playoff series.

Pepperell, which will be looking to complete an undefeated run through the region today, has already been assured of hosting a first-round series by virtue of its region championship.

The teams from Region 7-AA will be paired against the teams from 6-AA in the first round of the playoffs — a match-up that has not proved favorable for the local teams in several other sports this season.
