A four-spot by the Northwest Whitfield Bruins in the top of the second inning proved to be too much for Ridgeland to overcome as the Panthers fell to 0-2 in subregion play with a 7-2 home loss on Thursday night.
Andy Whisenant and Brady Middleton each had two-RBI doubles in the inning to stake starting pitcher Wade Terrell and the Bruins (7-3, 2-0) to the early lead.
Ridgeland (5-3, 0-2) got on the board in the fourth inning as Logan Hicks' two-out RBI-single plated Gannon Hampton, and the Panthers' only other run came in the sixth as a fielder's choice off the bat of Tucker Hill brought in Josh Masley, running for catcher Coty Riddle who reached on an infield single, from third.
But Northwest added a run in the top of the fifth and plated two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win in the second game of the three-game series.
Josh McNabb took the loss for Ridgeland. McNabb allowed just five hits in seven innings, but struggled with his control, walking seven batters and hitting four more.
Riddle, Hampton, and Trevor Long each went 2 for 3 as the Panthers finished with seven hits on the evening.
The two teams are scheduled to close out the series Friday back in Tunnel Hill. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
