After back-to-back heartbreaking defeats to River Ridge, Cedartown's Jimmy Hand made sure the Bulldogs got the last laugh on Friday.
Cedartown (8-4, 1-2) lost to the Knights 1-0 on Wednesday and 4-3 in nine innings on Thursday, but on Friday Hand hit two home runs to help the Bulldogs record their first Region 7-AAAA, subregion A win of the season as they downed River Ridge 5-2.
Hand, who has signed a letter of intent to play at Northeastern University, hit a three-run home run in the first inning and then added a solo blast in the sixth. Hand finished 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored. Blake Oxenreider went 2-for-2 with a walk and Kory Lindsey went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Austin Huddleston started on the mound for Cedartown and pitched 5 1-3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits. Daylon Gates pitched the final 1 2-3 innings, striking out three while allowing one hit.
Ian Andrews went 2-for-3 with an RBI for River Ridge (3-8, 2-1) and Will Redding finished 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored.
