Water heater taken, bedroom ransacked in Cedartown burglaries

Two homes were burglarized in unrelated incidents, according to police reports.

A representative of All Real Estate told police on Jan. 16 a bank-owned property on Housel Street had been burglarized. The hot water heater was taken, reports said.

The report didn’t state how long the home had been under Bank of America ownership.

In a separate incident, a Highland Avenue homeowner came home around 8:45 a.m. Jan. 16 to find the home burglarized.

Reports state the owner returned home and saw lights on. The owner then found the rear doorframe broken. The bedroom was ransacked, reports state.

Items taken in the theft include jewelry and electronics.

Transgender former inmate settles with prison officials

ATLANTA (AP) — The state of Georgia has agreed to pay $250,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a transgender former inmate whose case drew the attention of the Justice Department after she complained prison officials didn't provide adequate treatment for her gender identity condition.
