Denver McLendon, Olympia Construction, recently directing crews at the job site off Chattahoochee Drive.
He said construction at 100 Ramsey Lane would take about 10 months. “Winter weather can delay the schedule and it could be 12 months before this project is completed,” he said.
The new 60-unit apartment complex will be located at 100 Ramsey Lane off Chattahoochee Drive. A total of 126 parking spaces will be provided for residents.
The development is for people over age 55. It will feature three residential buildings, shaped in a “U”, with amenities and a 2,600 square foot community center.
Housing will include one or two bedroom units. The two bedroom units will have two bathrooms. The exterior will be brick with vinyl accents.
The community clubhouse will be open to all tenants with activities and classes for residents hosted monthly.
Nicholas Sherman, Panorama Management, applied for rezoning of the 12.56 acres from PD-2 (Commercial Planned Development) to PD-1 (Residential Planned Development).
City council members approved his request following review and recommendation of the Rockmart Planning Commission. A public hearing was also held.
Director Stacey Smith, Rockmart Community Development, said this is one of the several ongoing building projects in Rockmart. “We have been very busy in what is known as a slow economy,” she said.
