The Cedartown Recreation Department’s 14-and-under All Star softball team has come home from Mississippi over the weekend as world champions for their age group.
The team – headed up by Shane Lee, Stacey Bowman, Roy Tracy and Junior Timms – brought home championship gold in the Dizzy Dean World Series in Southaven, Miss., on Sun-day following their win over the weekend.
According to a press release, the team went undefeated through the tournament, outscoring opponents 72-14 through-out five games.
“These young ladies had a great tournament playing for their town and each other,” the release from coaches on Sun-day ahead of their return to Cedartown stated. “A great ex-perience that they will always remember.”
The team started out locally in District 5, representing West Georgia in the state tournament before heading to the national level in Mississippi last week.
The team would not have made it to Mississippi, according to the release “without the great support of recreation direc-tor Lee Hayes, softball director Lindsey Camp, the City of Ce-dartown, sponsors, families of the players, coaches, and most of all these young ladies.”
Players on this year’s team included: Lizzie Lee, Katharine Tracy, Maddie Bowman, Tia Covington, Amber Timms, Baylee Wright, Tamera Beeman, Bay McElwee, Katrina Harris, Blair Bedford, Jameia Diamond.
The team is expected to arrive in Cedartown around 5:30 p.m., and meet up at Northwest Park for a brief celebration before heading home.
