Youth celebrate MLK with 11th annual Parade of Talent

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday might be over for the moment, but the memories of this year's celebrations will last a lifetime for a few in the community who were honored this past weekend. 

Pamela Baker-King, organizer of the 11th annual "Youth" Parade of Talent, said more than 150 people attended the event at Friendship Baptist Church. Rev. Alberta Cooley McCrory, mayor of Hobson City, Ala., was the keynote speaker for this year's gathering. 

Awards were also presented to a number of locals during the event, including Cedartown High's Nick Chubb who received the Mirror the Dream award and Sarah Frances Darden received the Martin Luther King award .

Filming in Emerson on Monday closes section of roadway

A section of a four-lane highway in Bartow County has become so popular with motion picture executives that Todd Heath, the assistant city manager in Emerson, said the city is considering adding a plaque to City Hall listing all the filming that has been done there.
