The Rockmart Recreation Department had a banner year in 2013 in fast-pitch softball.

“We had a successful season last year,” league director Neil Lewis said. “Our 10-and-under All-Star team won District and placed second in the state tournament. Our eight-and-under All-Star team finished third at District.”

With momentum going their way, Rockmart is now preparing to hold sign-ups for the 2014 season as well as try-outs.

Sign-ups will begin on Saturday, Feb. 1 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and sign-ups will continue to follow each Saturday for the rest of February. The sign-ups are being held at the Nathan Dean Sports Complex.

Try-outs will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22 with a free clinic on Saturday, March 1. The clinic will be instructed by Rockmart High School softball coach Steve Luke as well as current and former high school players.

“The clinic will be free and open to girls of all ages,” Lewis said.

Ages four-and-up are eligible to play in the softball league this season. The fee is $60.
