The Rockmart Middle School wrestling team had a strong showing at the league championship tournament this past Saturday at Model.

According to head coach Kris Maynard, the Yellow Jackets took 11 wrestlers to the tournament and two won their weight classes.

Truett Bowman was the tournament champion in the 103-pound division and Braden Durocher was the tournament champion in the 70-pound class.

Rockmart Middle placed 4th in the league championship this past Saturday at Model. 11 wrestlers placed at the tournament with 2 winning their weight class.

Deacon Allen, 220 pounds, took second in his division and Hunter England, 90 pounds, claimed second in his group.

Third place finishers were Casin Goodson (125 pounds), Griffin Pace (112 pounds), Shane Wolfe (85 pounds) and Caleb Cason (75 pounds). Chandler Cooper (132 pounds), Cornilius Heard (95 pounds) and Paine Culver (80 pounds) all placed fourth at the tournament.

“All of the coaches voted for one wrestler out of all the wrestlers to be the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament and Truett Bowman won that award,” Maynard said.

Rockmart will host Rome and Carrollton this Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at the middle school.

“We will have an eighth grade recognition ceremony at 4 p.m.,” Maynard said. “Then we will have out last match of the season.”
