Mrs. Carter

Mrs. Linda Lou Carter, age 67, of Cedartown, passed away on Saturday morning, Oct. 15, 2016 following a brief illness.

She was born on Feb. 26, 1949 in Felton, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Timms.

She was retired from the food industry, was a member of the Friendly Baptist Church of Cedartown.

Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her father and Husband Marion Carter, Brothers James Timms and Clifford Timms.

She is survived by her loving family, her mother, Willie McGatha Timms; her sons and a daughter in law, Donald Carter and Ronald Carter and his wife Stacy; her daughter, Diane Oliver; her brother, Donald Timms; four sisters, Faye Crawford, Lorene Washburn, Arlene Godfrey and Darlene Johnson; her grandchildren, Rusty Nale, Nicole Nale, Pamela and Blake Shelton and Caleb Carter; her great grandchildren, Zack Nale, Gabe Oliver and Vincent Shelton. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Linda Lou Carter were conducted on Monday afternoon, Oct. 17, 2016 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home with the Rev. John Redding officiating.

Interment will follow in the Center Cemetery, Felton.

Mr. Gibson

Mr. James Glenn Gibson age 63 of Cedartown, left this world for his heavenly home Saturday Oct. 15, 2016.

Mr. Gibson was born Feb. 3, 1953 in Cedartown. He was a life long resident of Polk County.

He was a retired employee of the Hon Company with over 25 years of service and the Goodyear Mill of Cedartown with 11 years of service, as well as the First Baptist Church of Cedartown for over 28 years.

Mr. Gibson was of the Baptist faith. He lived his entire life by his Christian principles of loving God, his family and helping others. He was always found exemplifying the Golden Rule and putting the needs of others first.

Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his wife Mrs. Jackie Horton Gibson and his mother Louise Glenn.

He is survived by his loving family, daughter, Stephanie Elizabeth Gibson, Grandson Jeremiah Glenn Gibson, Sisters Karen Ventura and Betty Glenn, nephew Jeremy Ventura, niece Lorenza Ventura, and other family members from New York also survive.

Funeral services for James Glenn Gibson were conducted Tuesday Oct. 18, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of the Lester Litesey Funeral Home, with District Leader Henry L. Cothran Jr. officiating, interment to follow in the Southview Cemetery.

Mr. Coleman

Mr. James David Coleman, age 66 of Cedartown, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016.

He was born on Dec. 29, 1949 in Cedartown, the son of the late James Fred and Lois Mae Sheets Coleman.

Mr. Coleman is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Martha Houston Coleman; daughter, Melissa Streetman (Ervin); son, Chris Coleman (Alisha); and five grandchildren, Brittany Streetman, Joshua Streetman, April Streetman, James Coleman, and Addison Coleman; and great-grandchild Kylen Maulding.

The funeral arrangements for Mr. James D. Coleman were conducted on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Tucker, Rev. Billy Vines, and Rev. Jonathan Wilson officiating.

Interment followed in the Polk Memory Gardens Cemetery, with Rev. Jason Slaughter officiating, military rites were conducted by Brewster-Cleveland American Legion Post #86.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Casey Lyal, Jonathan Bishop, Jerry Jones, Shane Streetman, Timothy Hayes, and Jeff Arnold.

Joshua Streetman and James C. Coleman served as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Eckert

Mr. James Wilbert ( J.W. ) Eckert, age 76, of Rockmart (the Van Wert community) passed away Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at his residence following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Rockmart, on April 12, 1940 a son of the late Wilbert and Bertha Mae Harrell Eckert.

Mr. Eckert had lived all of his life in Rockmart and attended Rockmart High School. He retired following a thirty two year career at Engineered Fabrics Corporation. He attended the Rockmart Church of Christ; loved to hunt and to go fishing.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Joan Eckert.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Syble January Eckert of Rockmart to whom he was married on July 24, 1960; son, Eddie Eckert, Rockmart; three daughters: Sonia Lee (Mike) Brown, Conyers, Amy Jill (David) Stone, Taylorsville and Melissa (Thomas) List, Rockmart; one sister, Faye Bell, Rockmart; thirteen grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home with Minister Josh Clevenger officiating. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers included: David Stone, Thomas List, Matthew Jones, Jesse Smith, Josh Redden and Tyler Hill.

Mr. Grisham

Mr. David Chester Grisham Jr., age 54 of Rome, passed away on Friday, Oct. 14, 2016.

He was born on Dec. 2, 1961 in Silsbee, Texas, the son of the late David Chester Grisham Sr. and the late Frances Sullender Grisham.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a step son, Shawn Molock.

Mr. Grisham is survived by his loving wife, Mary M. Grisham; his sons, David A. Grisham and Steven Grisham; his daughter, Shelly Grisham; his sister, Judy Rogers and eight grandchildren.

Graveside and Interment services for Mr. David Chester Grisham Jr., will be conducted on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016 at 4 p.m. in the North View Cemetery with Rev. Steve Fetkenhour officiating.

Rev. Howell

Rev. Frederick H. Rowell, age 73 of Cedartown, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016.

He was born on April 7, 1943 in Cedartown, the son of the late Winford B. and Elizabeth Rhinehart Rowell.

Rev. Rowell is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Patricia O’Bryant Rowell; daughter, Ansley Rowell Jones (Lester); sons, Anthony S. Rowell (Jill) and Patrick B. Rowell (Laura); brother, Kenneth Rowell (Diane) and seven grandchildren, Madison Jones, Mitchell Jones, Samantha Rowell, Connor Rowell, Cassidy Rowell, John Patrick (JP) Rowell and Ruth Anne Rowell. He loved his family and was thrilled to spend time with them golfing and fishing.

Rev. Howell served as pastor at Hillside Mission of First Baptist Church and New Harmony Baptist Church, both in Cedartown. In addition, he also pastored Mt. Moriah Baptist in Mt. Eden, K.Y., Walker Baptist Monroe, Sherwood Forest in Rome, New Hope in Summerville, Kingsland First Baptist in Kingsland and Green Acres Baptist in Athens.

Following his last full-time pastorate at Green Acres Baptist, Rev. Howell determined he was not yet ready for retirement.

He next became the Associational Missionary for the Apalachee-Morgan Counties Baptist churches, finally retiring in Oct. of 2015. Over the last 10 years, he has also poured his time, energy and love into involvement with the Penfield Ministry, helping raise many thousands of dollars to aid their efforts in battling Alcohol and Drug addiction.

Rev. Howell was a rare and special jewel who influenced lives far and wide. He loved God, he loved his family, he loved his friends and he loved his dog Cubby Bear. His love of life permeated everything he did and all those he crossed paths with.

The funeral arrangements for Rev. Frederick H. Rowell were conducted on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016 at 4 p.m. at New Harmony Baptist Church.

In keeping with Rev. Rowell’s wishes, he was cremated after the funeral service.

Officer 1st Class Nolan

Senior Patrol Officer 1st Class, Joy Laine Nolen, age 54, of Cedartown, passed away on Thursday morning, Oct. 13, 2016.

Officer Nolen was born on June 22, 1962 in Canton.

She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Tim Bennett.

Officer Nolen was a certified Police Officer, serving with the Cedartown Police Department.

A graduate of the Floyd College's Regional Police Academy, she had the great distinction of serving and protecting the residents of the area for 22 years.

Additionally, she went on to secure a number of other law enforcement credentials and certifications during her career, so as to better serve our citizens.

Officer Nolen looked at her service to both the people of Cedartown and Polk County, as a "calling". She loved her community and dedicated her life to making a difference in the area, and leaving her town safer at the end of her shift, and ready for the next group of officers to do the same.

She was loved by so many, and will be sorely missed by her proud family, her Law Enforcement family and her friends.

Senior Patrol Officer 1st Class Nolen is survived by her loving family, her son and daughter in law, Adam and Shae Wagoner; her daughters, Heather Pinkard and Jessica Williams; her father, Matthew Bennett; her brothers, Matt Bennett and Marc Bennett; her sister, Melody Hoffman; her grandchildren, Davis Wagoner, Della Kate Wagoner, Brooklyn Pinkard, Kenleigh Pinkard, Emily Pinkard, Lyndon Pinkard, Brennam Williams, Olivia Barrett and Blake Barrett; a number of nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Senior Patrol Officer 1st Class Joy Nolen were conducted on Tuesday evening, Oct.18, 2016 at 6 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Cedartown, with Cedartown Police Chief Jamie Newsome and the Rev. Blake Dodd officiating.

Law Enforcement Honors will be conveyed at the conclusion of the service.

Ms. Nellie Kate Shaw Benefield, age 96 of Cedartown, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016.

She was born on April 8, 1920 in Riverdale,. the daughter of the late John W. and Cassie Mae Sealark Shaw.

Ms. Benefield is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Butch and Dottie Benefield and one granddaughter, Lacey Benefield.

Ms. Benefield is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond R. Benefield; sisters, Willie M. Shaw, Virginia Carol, Erin Shaw and Caren Barber and brothers, Ralph Shaw, Wesley Shaw, Boyce Shaw, Joel Shaw and Pierce Shaw.

Mrs. James

Mrs. Gladys Carter James, age 96, of Cedartown, passed away on Tuesday evening, Oct. 11, 2016 following an extended illness.

Mrs. James was born on Aug. 18, 1920 in Cedartown to her parents, the late Wiley and Annie Pearl Peace Carter.

She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Frances Cook, Mildred Ash, Dot Ward, Janie Spann and Patsy Jo Allen Eversman. Additionally, Gladys was also preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, John Thomas James.

Mrs. James was retired from the Jockey Corporation, after serving for many years as a product Inspector. She was devoted and longtime member of the Pine Bower Baptist Church, being a member there for over 71 years.

She was very proud of her church and had served as a Sunday School Teacher and a G.A. Leader.

Mrs. James is survived by her loving family, her son and daughter in law, Tommy and Sandra James; her daughter and son in law, Maryse and Paul Dempsey; her grandchildren, Lance James, Chris Graham and Alicia Walker; her great grandchildren, John Knox James, Myra Stephenson, Lehren, Brooke and Cam Walker; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday afternoon, Oct. 14, 2016 at 2 p.m. from the Pine Bower Baptist Church with her Pastor, the Rev. Roger Kiser officiating.

Interment will follow in the Polk Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Roddy

Mrs. Frances Anita Roddy, age 91, of Rockmart and formally of Dayton, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016 at her residence.

She was born in Shelbyville, Tenn., on April 8, 1925 to the late Jimmy and Anita Rogers.

Mrs. Roddy was a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene in Red Bank, Tenn.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jennings "Tub" Roddy on July 8, 2010; son Jerry Hall; grandson Ashely Scott; brother: Jim Rogers and sister: Helen Choate.

She is survived by a son, Donnie (Sharon) Roddy, Rockmart; daughters, Judy White, Rockmart, GA and Rita Scott Buchanan; sisters Louise O'Neal Morganton, N.C., Anna Mae Branum, Decatur, Ala.; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Coulter Garrison Funeral Home with Minister O.L.Hart officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasentview Cemetery.

Mrs. Lucas

Mrs. Carol Ann Cagle Lucas age 69 of Rockmart passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016.

Mrs. Lucas was born Feb. 15, 1947 in Polk County, daughter of the late Lacelle “Jack” Cagle and the late Ida Mae Clinton Cagle.

She was a graduate of the Rockmart High School Class of 1965. Having lived in several different states due to her husband’s career, she moved back to Rockmart in December 2006 following his death.

Mrs. Lucas was a member of the Aragon Baptist Church where she was the pianist for many years and retired from Tallatoona Headstart of Polk County.

She enjoyed going to church, playing the piano which she was very passionate about, listening to good music and spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Arnold “Jim” Lucas on Dec. 6, 2004; and a son, Michael Lucas.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Jeannie Lucas of West Linn, Oregon; sister and brother-in-law, Loye (Cagle) Statham and Phil of Rockmart; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Randy and Lisa Cagle of Tallapoosa and Tommy and Wanda Cagle of Wyoming; three granddaughters, Cheyenne Lucas Thomas and MieMie Lucas of Raleigh, N.C., and Emily Lucas of West Linn, Ore.; several nieces and nephews also survived.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lucas were held on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Calvin Brown officiating.

Interment services followed in the family lot of Rockmart Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Bradley

Mr. David Raymond Bradley Sr., age 66 of Rockmart passed away Monday morning, Oct. 10, 2016.

Mr. Bradley was born April 30, 1950 in Atlanta, son of the late Lawrence Wooten Bradley and the late Betty Hudson Bradley.

He was in the construction industry and moved to Rockmart in 2006 from the Atlanta area. He loved to travel, play golf and was fun to be around.

Mr. Bradley was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Gates Bradley.

Survivors included his wife, Judy Steed Bradley of Rockmart to whom he was married Dec. 7, 1980; son, David Raymond Bradley Jr; and a granddaughter, Adrienne Sue Bradley.

Memorial services for Mr. Bradley will be held at a later date.
