Mrs. Barfield

Mrs. Bertie Fowler Barfield, local artist, age 85, of Aragon, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017.

She was born in Tate on March 12, 1932 a daughter of the late Burton B. Fowler and Mamie Disharoon Fowler.

Mrs. Barfield had been a resident of Aragon since 1975 moving here from Marietta.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rockmart and was a regular at the Bojangles in Rockmart most mornings. She was a local painter and artist who also enjoyed fishing.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Wilbur Barfield on Oct. 25, 2006 to whom she was married for 55 years; and by a brother Howard Fowler and sister, Jewel Thomas.

Survivors include daughters: Becky Sailors (Tillman), Marietta; Peggy Moss (James), Dallas; sons: David Barfield (Tisse), Lawrenceville, Steven Barfield, Aragon and estranged son, Joseph Barfield (Jennifer), Tallapoosa; sisters: Marjorie Wigley, Edison, GA and Jolene Gravitt, Rockmart; sister in law, Ruth Fowler, Auburn, Ala.; 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 17, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Rockmart with Rev. Jerry Adair officiating and a eulogy given by Mr. Dan Casey.

Interment followed in the Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers included: Jason Hitt, Travis Hitt,Corey Wilson, Nathan Barfield, John Layfield, and Nathan Standridge. The Adult 4 Sunday School Class served as Honorary Pallbearers.

Mr. Coffey

Mr. Christopher Michael Coffey, age 35, of Buchanan, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017 in a Rome medical center.

He was born in Rome on May 18, 1981 a son of Michael Lee Coffey and Judy Reasor Coffey.

Mr. Coffey and his parents lived in Michigan for a few years before the family moved back to Cedartown and then to Rockmart where he has lived the greater part of his life.

He loved fishing, boating and riding four wheelers.

His greatest love was spending time with his family and friends.

He was a real down to earth guy who had very strong convictions, but was a real ma ma’s boy.

Mr. Coffey is survived by his wife Charity Coffey, to whom he was married on June 16, 2012; three children: Tyler Coffey, Hunter Howard and Shylin Coffey; mother, Judy Lewis; sister, Kicia Coffey; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 with a time and place to be announced later.

Mr. Graham

Mr. Wayne M. Graham, age 77, of Rockmart, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 14, 2017.

He was born in Dallas on April 15, 1939 a son of the late Fred Graham and Mary Lee Morris Graham.

Mr. Graham had made his home in Rockmart for the past 20 years moving here from Dallas.

He was of the Baptist faith and was a former employee of Walsh Paving Company.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Graham and by a brother, Donald Graham.

Survivors include two sons: David Graham and wife Jeannie, of Cedartown, and Todd Graham and wife Denise, of New Hope; nine grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Jesse Davis officiating.

In keeping with his wishes following the funeral service he was cremated.

Mrs. Peine

Mrs. Audrey Perry Peine, age 84, of Cedar Point, Ala., passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017.

She was born on Oct. 1, 1932 the daughter of Elvin L. Perry and Bertie Mae Kinard Perry.

Mrs. Peine had been a Home Interior Representative for twenty five years.

She was a ball room dancer for 20 years and had attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church for fifteen years.

Mrs. Peine enjoyed gardening, and loved her cats.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and neighbors. She was very proud of her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Alan C. Peine and daughters, Polly Felicia Peine and Audrey Alane Peine.

Mrs. Peine is survived locally by her daughter and son in law, Janie Peine Sharp and Al Sharp; her grandchildren, Ethan Holder and Haley Holder. Mrs. Peine is also survived by her other children, Bridget Jackson, Colleen Miller, David Peine and Chuck Peine; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Audrey Perry Peine were conducted on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 10 a.m. central time from the Chapel of the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Trussville, Ala.

Interment followed in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens East with Rev. Billy Abrams officiating.

The Family received friends on Thursday evening, March 16, 2017 and also on Friday, March 17, 2017 prior to funeral hour at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home.

Mrs. Peines family served as her pallbearers.

Mrs. Ferguson

Mrs. Melinda McKee “Molly” Ferguson age 61 of Rockmart passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017.

Mrs. Ferguson was born Oct. 26, 1955 in Atlanta, daughter of the late Bill McKee and the late Gelinda Hardin McKee.

She attended Rockmart High School and was a member of the 101 Church.

Mrs. Ferguson retired from the Murata Manufacturing Company with 28 years of service. She loved people, her family, spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed a good large coca-cola.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Anne Johnson Skiles.

Survivors included her husband, Danny Ferguson to whom she was married Aug. 5, 1985; daughter, Brittany Ferguson Peek and her husband Bo; son, Dan Ferguson all of Rockmart; brother, Jimmy Johnson of Acworth; two grandchildren, Camden Ferguson and Camari Peek also survived.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ferguson were held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Pastor James Cordell and Rev. Danny Tucker officiating.

Interment services followed in the family lot of the Rose Hill Cemetery.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jason Massey, Chad Crumley, Clay Ferguson, Joshua Johnson, Matt Pruitt and Jeffrey Hillis.

Infant Ellie Brunn

Little Infant, Ellie Rosalee Brunn, daughter of Jarron Dean Brunn and Lexus Nichole Robinson passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017.

Survivors included her parents, Jarron Brunn and Lexus Robinson; brother, Elijah Dean Brunn, all of Rockmart; maternal grandparents, Guy and Earleen Robinson; paternal grandparents, Edna Rose Swan, Margaret Freeman, Dean Brunn and Chanel Brunn; great-maternal grandparents, Glenn and Laura Robinson; and great-paternal grandparents, Marjorie Jackson and Cedric Swan.

Funeral graveside and interment services were held on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the family lot of Northview Cemetery with Rev. Owen (Bud) Davis, Jr. officiating.

Ms. Garrett

Miss Lucy L. Garrett, age 81, of Cedartown, passed away on Saturday evening, March 11, 2017.

Miss Garrett was born on March 7, 1936 in Polk County a daughter of Mr. Albert Columbus Garrett Sr., and Mrs. Katie Smith Garrett.

She was a member of the Followers of Christ.

In addition to her parents, Miss Garrett was also preceded in death by her brothers, Albert Garrett Jr., Matt Garrett, Joseph Garrett and Morris Garrett; and a sister, Mary Lela Garrett.

Miss Garrett is survived by her sister, Ella Garrett Collins and a number of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The funeral for Miss Lucy L. Garrett was conducted on Tuesday afternoon, March 14, 2017 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home with Rev. Phillip Farris and Rev. George Lee officiating.

Interment followed in the Prospect Cemetery, Rockmart, Georgia.

The family received friends on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 prior to the funeral hour at the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hammonds

Mrs. Tiffany Rhae Brown Hammonds. age 44, of Rockmart, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017.

She was born in Rockmart on August 9, 1972 a daughter of Sherrie Powers Brown and the late Howell Brown.

Mrs. Hammonds had lived all of her life in Rockmart where she was a member of the Lake View Baptist Church.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She also enjoyed camping and fishing.

Survivors include her husband, Brad Hammonds; sons: Kain Hammonds and Brandon Hammonds. She is survived by her mother, Sherrie Brown; grandchildren: Mercy Hammonds and Nathan Hammonds all of Rockmart.

A number of aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

In keeping with her wishes Mrs. Hammonds was cremated.

A memorial service will be held at a date and time that has yet to be determined.

Mr. Garmon

Mr. Chester Perry Garmon, age 83 of Pace, Fla., formerly of Cedartown, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017.

He was born on Oct. 11, 1933 in Bluffton, Alabama. He was the son of the late Clifton Russell and Electa Mabel Peek Garmon.

Mr. Garmon worked for General Electric of Rome in the engineering department for 38 years.

He was a former member and deacon of the New Harmony Baptist Church in Cedartown. He was now a member of the Wallace Baptist Church in Pace, Florida.

Mr. Garmon is survived by his wife, Jeanette Marie Knight Garmon; daughter, Patti Garmon Hurd (James) of Pace, Florida; son, Michael Garmon (Guadalupe) of Yucaipa, California; sisters, Allie Pope and Alma Jackson.

He is also survived by grandchildren, Ana Paula Garmon, Sara Garmon, Matthew Garmon, Jenny Hurd, Nan Hurd and Betsy Hurd; great-grandchildren, Nora Hurd, Bethany Hurd and Helen Grace Hurd and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Garmon is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ellie Voyles and brothers, Carl Garmon, Rev. Clinton Garmon, Fay Garmon and Herman Garmon.

The funeral arrangements for Mr. Chester Perry Garmon were conducted on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 11 a.m. at New Harmony Baptist Church.

Rev. Sammy Stephens, Rev. Billy Frasier and Brother Eddie Davis officiated.

Interment followed in the Northview Cemetery with Mr. Bill Garmon officiating.

The family of Mr. Garmon received family and friends on Wednesday evening, March 15, 2017 at the Gammage Funeral Home.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Don Garmon, Paul Garmon, Crickett Knight, Vernon Knight, Carl Knight and Clyde Davis. Honorary pallbearers included the deacons of New Harmony Baptist Church.

Ms. Morrison

Ms. Connie Elizabeth Slaughter Morrison, age 54, of Belton, S.C., and formerly of Cedartown, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017.

Connie was born on Jan. 5, 1963 in Rome, the daughter of Billy Slaughter and Sue Lovelace.

She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Cedartown.

She was preceded in death by her birth parents, Billy Slaughter and Sue Lovelace and her adoptive father and mother, who raised her as their own, Amos Slaughter and Velma Slaughter; and her son in law, Tony Gannon.

Connie Slaughter Morrison is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Hackney and Wynter Gannon; her brothers, Mike Slaughter and Jackie Slaughter; her sisters, Lori Slaughter, Pat Robinson and Shirley Wheeler.

She is survived by five grandchildren, Madison Hackney, Faith Hackney, Ethan Gannon, Kaeden Gannon and Taylon Gannon. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The memorial service for Ms. Connie Slaughter Morrison was conducted on Tuesday afternoon, March 14, 2017 at 1 p.m. from the Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Newsome officiating.

The family received friends immediately following the memorial service in the church sanctuary.

Mr. Winkles

Mr. John C. Winkles, 76, passed away March 7, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Cedartown, to J.C. and Nancy Worsham Winkles.

MR. Winkles loved hunting, fishing, spending time with family, maintaining his yard and visiting with neighbors on his riding lawn mower. He was a member of the Caledonia Masonic Lodge # 121 F&AM of Cedartown where he was both Scottish Rite and a Shriner.

Mr. Winkles worked many years as an electrician in the industrial field where he made many friends and was well-known as “Papa John.”

Survivors include his beloved wife and soulmate of 60 years, Jimmie (Lou) Winkles, his daughters; Suzanne Philippe, Happi Scivicque and husband Lawrence, Lynda Crystal and husband Jonas, his brother; Ray E. Gilley, his grandchildren; Lane Borskey and spouse Lesly, Robert Burch and spouse Tabitha, Haley Nassif and spouse Gregory, Katie Hunter and spouse Ryan, Jordan Borskey and spouse Brooke, Lauren Andrews and spouse Trevor, Abby Braud and spouse Damon, Reese Crystal and Marley Crystal and 15 great grandchildren.

Mr. Winkles was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters; Kathleen Boatner and Ludie Barnett, his in-laws; Thomas B. and Elma Head and his brother-in-law Tommy Head. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital and the doctors and staff in the MICU Unit at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.

Visitation was Friday March 10, 2017 at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales starting prior to funeral service.

Rev. Wayne Talley officiated the Funeral Service and the eulogy was delivered by his nephew Mr. Bill Garmon.

After the celebration of his life, burial followed at Serenity Oaks Cemetery in Prairieville.

Mr. Moore

Mr. Dusty Ryan Moore. age 34, of Reno, Nev., passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017.

Dusty was born in Rome on Sept. 19, 1982 and had lived most of his life in Polk County before moving to Nevada.

He was the son of the late Charles Edward Moore Jr, and Cynthia Starr Moore of Lindale.

In addition to his father, Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his step-father, Bobby Leon Nation Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Medea Bowers Moore of Reno, NV; his mother, Cynthia Starr Moore of Lindale, a sister, Crystal Moore of Rockmart; two brothers, Charles Jefferson Moore and Toby Moore, both of Rockmart.

He is survived by one step-brother, Bobby Nation Jr. of Lindale; four nephews, Michael Andrew West, Dakota West, Tristen Moore, Austin Moore; and two nieces, Angel West and Ada Leigh Moore.

In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Moore was cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held on April 1, 2017 in the Seaboard Jones Park, Downtown Rockmart.

Everyone who knew Mr. Moore is invited to attend.
