Mr. Arp

Mr. Harvey “Shorty” Arp, age 80, of Cedartown, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017.

He was born on April 30, 1937 in Centre, Ala., the son of the late Jasper and Maggie Arp.

Mr. Arp is survived by his daughters Betty Arp Clonts (Allen), and Elaine Garner (Chad); sons Terry Arp (Angie) and Michael Arp (Marie); sisters Sarah Woody and Helen Cushin; his brother Eugene Arp; his 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Arp is preceded in death by his parents Jasper and Maggie Arp.

The funeral arrangements for Mr. Arp were conducted on Monday, June 26, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Redden and Rev. John Redden officiating.

Interment followed in Northview Cemetery.

The family of Mr. Arp received family and friends on Sunday evening, June 25, 2017 at the Gammage Funeral Home.

Mr. Short

Mr. Gene Short, age 50, of Cedartown, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017.

He was born on Jan. 21, 1967 in Polk County, the son of the late Roy Eugene and Betty Ann Davis Short.

Mr. Short is survived by his wife, Angie Short; daughters Amanda Short (Jarrod), Allyson Deaton (Tyler), and Kelly Marchbanks (Hunter); his son, Wes Hurley (Brooke); his brother, Willie Short; and his grandchildren Landon, Hunter, Steven, Lydia, and Easton.

Mr. Short is preceded in death by his parents; father, Roy Eugene Short and mother, Betty Ann Davis Short.

The funeral arrangement for Mr. Charles Eugene Short were conducted on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Pastor Wormy Wiseman officiating.

Interment followed in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family of Mr. Short received family and friends on Saturday evening, June 24, 2017 at the Gammage Funeral Home.

Mr. Millican

Mr. James Edward Millican, age 83, of Piedmont, Ala., passed away on Thursday night, June 22, 2017.

James Edward Millican was born on May 4, 1934 in Borden Springs, Ala., a son of Mr. Eddie Millican and Mrs. Anna Seigler Millican.

He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean War.

He had worked for several years with the Wicks and Leeds Lumber Company as a truck driver. Mr. Millican was a member of the Arrington Chapel Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Millican was preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby Millican and Jimmy Milligan; a half brother, Russell Milligan; a half sister, Louise Milligan; a son, Charles Edward Millican and his wife, Shelby Jean Blankenship Millican in 2005.

Mr. Millican is survived by his sons, Kenneth and Connie Millican and Barry Millican; his daughters, Debra and Willard Brannon and Denise and Todd Wallace; fifteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The Millican Family received friends on Sunday afternoon, June 25, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home.

The Funeral Service for Mr. James Edward Millican will be conducted on Sunday afternoon, June 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home with Rev. Stanley McBride and Rev. Sam Roe officiating. Interment will follow in the North View Cemetery will full military honors conducted by the Brewster Cleveland Post 86 Honor Guard.

Mr. Campbell

Mr. Larry Joe Campbell, age 70 of Rockmart passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017.

Mr. Campbell was born July 3, 1946 in Floyd County, son of the late Joe L. Campbell and the late Nobie Davis Campbell.

He attended Rockmart High School and was a member of the Bellview Baptist Church.

Mr. Campbell retired from the General Motors Corporation with 31years of service. He was a devout fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and loved to go to the lake and fish.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lorri Faye Campbell.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Waits Campbell to whom he was married August 22, 1965; daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Daniel Johnson; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Ronald McElheney all of Rockmart; two grandchildren, Gevin Johnson and Trent Johnson; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Campbell were held on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the Bellview Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Snapp, Rev. Doyle Kelley and Rev. Ronald McElheney officiating. A eulogy was given by his grandson, Mr. Trent Johnson.

Interment services followed in the family lot of the church cemetery with Rev. Justin Carter officiating.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Gevin Johnson, Trent Johnson, Keith Moates, Kevin Moates, Ronnie McElheney, Dustin Yarborough, Danny Stephenson, Tony Robinson and Robert Armstrong.

Mrs. Waldrop

Mrs. Martha Ann Waldrop, age 73, of Rockmart, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at her residence.

She was born in Paulding County on March 24, 1944 a daughter of the late Christine Hulsey.

Mrs. Waldrop had lived the greater part of her life in Polk County and was of the Baptist faith. She attended the New Beginnings Church of Rockmart.

Mrs. Waldrop worked for a number of years as an Emergency Medical Technician with the Polk County Ambulance Service.

She and her late husband were was also the former owners and operators of D and M Movieland of Cedartown and Mrs. Waldrop also operated Granny's Country Crafts.

She was preceded in death by her husband George Dennis Waldrop on May 12, 2003; by a sister, Pauline Mullinax and by two brothers: Johnny Hulsey and Odel Hulsey.

Survivors include two sons: Ricky Hulsey (Gail), Bremen, and Bobby Waldrop (Jane), Rockmart; two step sons: Michael Waldrop (Teresa) of Missouri and Greg Waldrop (Angela) of Florida; eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a sister, Lillie Bell Haley, Temple.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Williams officiating.

Interment followed in the Piney Woods Baptist Church Cemetery of Haralson County.

Pallbearers included: Jeff Wilson, Jonathan Hulsey, Luke Smith, Tracy Wilson, Kyle Hulsey and Jeff Hulsey.

Mrs. Astin

Mrs. Mary B. Astin, age 81, of Cedartown, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, June 21, 2017 following an extended illness.

She was born on July 6, 1935 in Polk County to her parents, the late Maynon Conyer Beck, Sr. and Hattie Brazier Beck.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death her husband, James Clifton "J.C." Astin, her brothers, Paul Beck, J.P. Beck, Maynon Beck, Jr. and her sister, Arville McCurry.

Mrs. Astin grew up in the Esom Hill and Little Harmony Community and graduated from Cedartown High School's Class of 1953 and almost immediately began a career in finance, business and sales that spanned for many, many years.

She first worked with the Liberty National Bank of Cedartown and later went on to work with the Florence Cotton Broker's Company and then the A.S.C.S. Office.

Striving to be her very best at everything that she did, she finally joined the Jefferson Furniture Company as a Sales Representative. Falling in love with the furniture business, she went on to make a full career in furniture sales at Jefferson Furniture, which later became the Heilege-Myers Furniture Company.

Her love of people and her desire to please others lead to over 28 years of dedicated sales and service to our community.

Mrs. Astin loved and cherished her family & especially her grandchildren. She was also known for her delicious cooking and enjoyed preparing a meal almost as much as she liked furniture sales.

She was a longtime member of the Shiloh Baptist Church and loved her church family.

Mrs. Astin served faithfully in her church for more than 30 years and held the post of church secretary, as well as serving on the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery Fund Committee.

She is survived by her loving family, her sons and daughters in law, James Steven Astin and his wife Teresa, Robin Beck Astin and his wife Jacqueline, and Darryl Todd Astin; her grandchildren, Shawn Beck Astin, Ashley Elizabeth Cowart and her husband Matthew, Alex Steven Astin and Alden James Astin; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary B. Astin were conducted on Friday afternoon, June 23, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. from the Chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Wright and the Rev. Billy Vines officiating.

Interment followed in the family lot of the Greenwood Cemetery.

The family received friends on Friday, June 23, 2017 prior to the funeral hour at the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hardy

Mrs. Doris Ellen Holland Hardy age 83 of Rockmart passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017.

Mrs. Hardy was born Aug. 7, 1933 in Dallas, daughter of the late Sharon (Shad) Jackson Holland and the late Jo Ellen Williams Holland.

She was a graduate of the Rockmart High School Class of 1952. She was a homemaker and a member of the Aragon United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hardy cherished her family, enjoyed fishing and playing bridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Willie) Edward Hardy on Jan. 22, 2009; son-in-law, Steve Patterson; brother, Lum Edward Holland; and sister, Martha Holland Hulsey.

Survivors included two daughters and son-in-law, Martha Jane Patterson of Armuchee and Freda and Mark Fennell of Rockmart; three grandchildren, Michelle Vansciver, Melody Wright, and Jason Patterson; and five great-grandchildren, Gillian Vansciver, Rylee Vansciver, Katie Beth Wright, Zachary Sims, and Bryson Patterson.

A special thank you to Mr. Brad Hulsey for his love and support to “Aunt Dossie”.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hardy were held on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 4 p.m. in the Aragon United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Woodworth officiating. A eulogy was given by Mrs. Melody Wright.

Interment services followed in the family lot of the Aragon Cemetery.

Mr. Odom

Mr. Terry Lewis Odom, age 78 of Cedartown, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, June 20, 2017, following an auto accident.

Mr. Odom was born on July 28, 1938 in Polk County to Elise Odom Bentley and Terry C. Odom.

Mr. Odom worked in the Building Supply Industry in Cedartown for 30 years.

He retired from Capitoline Products in Armuchee, was a mentor at Cherokee Elementary School for 13 years, and a Sunday school teacher and Deacon at Worldview Baptist Church for many years.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving from November 1961 to November 1963.

Mr. Odom was also president of the Cedartown Little League in 1974, and served as a coach for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Peggy Kelley Odom; son, Douglas Craig Odom, and grandsons; Aaron Michael Odom and Zachary Dalton Odom, granddaughter Madison Brooke Odom; sister Linda Richards, brothers-in-laws, James Richards and Joe Brock, sister-in –law, Charlene Odom, daughter –in laws, Tammy Odom and Valerie Odom, and nephews, Blake Odom, Wayne Odom, Clint Odom, and Joey Brock

Mr. Odom is preceded in death by his parents; son, Timothy Lewis Odom, (Timmy), sister, Judy Brock, brother, Rudy Odom and nephew, Keith Richards.

The funeral arrangements for Mr. Terry Lewis Odom were conducted on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the afternoon at Worldview Baptist Church, with Dr. Larry Connor, Rev. Doyle Kelley, and Rev. Jerry McCurdy officiating. Interment followed in the Polk Memory Gardens.

The family of Mr. Odom received family and friends on Thursday evening, June 22, 2017 at the Gammage Funeral Home.

Mrs. Warner

Mrs. Judith (Judi) Marie Hess Warner, age 78, of Cedartown, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family, on Monday evening, June 19, 2017.

Mrs. Warner was born on July 30, 1938 in Newton, Iowa to her parents, the late Burl Hess and Esther and Merle (Bus) Gearhart (step-father.)

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Fredrick "Keith" Warner and a grandson, Gavin Josiah Warner.

Mrs. Warner retired from the City of Cedartown, serving in an administrative position.

Prior to her retirement she also served as a secretary for the Maytag Company in Newton, Iowa.

She loved life, her family, yoga and cycle classes at the Rome-Floyd YMCA, Bible study groups, Presby Magnolia Women, and the alumni of Newton High School Class of 1956.

Mrs. Warner was an active member of the Grace Presbyterian Church of Cedartown.

She is survived by her loving family, her daughter, Teri Warner (Kim Canada), sons, Dave Warner (Jill Baldwin), Chuck Warner, Eric Warner (Lisa Warner), and her furry critters, Fannie and Kurt.

A number of grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.

As per Mrs. Warner's wishes, after cremation and arrival of out of town family members, graveside and interment services for Mrs." Warner will be conducted on Sunday afternoon, July 9, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the family lot of the Greenwood Cemetery with the Reverends John Ragland and Matt Rabe officiating.

The family will be receiving friends at the Warner residence, located at 126 North College Street, Cedartown.

Mrs. Puckett

Ms. Eleanor "Joyce" Puckett, age 77, of Cedartown, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017.

She was born in Atlanta on Dec. 23, 1939 a daughter of the late Walter Black and Sarah Haynes Black.

Mrs. Puckett had lived most of her life in the Cedartown area.

She was of the Baptist faith and had worked for Fox Manufacturing in Rome and also worked for the State of Georgia as a data entry clerk.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Black.

Survivors include her four children: Lori Bagwell, Jason Bagwell, Latrelle McCarty and Miranda Harrell; two step children: Robert Puckett and Tim Puckett; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The family received friends Tuesday evening, June 20, 2017 at the Smith and Miller Funeral Home.

In keeping with her wishes Mrs. Puckett, was cremated and no services will be held.

Mrs. Hernandez

Mrs. Virginia Louise Jarrell Hernandez, age 60, of Buchanan,, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017.

She was born on March 31, 1957 in Cedartown, a daughter of the late Mr. Ollie Jarrell and the late Mrs. Helen Virginia Moon Jarrell.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by brothers, Doyle, Bobby and John Wayne Jarrell.

Virginia Hernandez is survived by her husband, Juan Hernandez; her brothers, William Moon, Eugene Jarrell, Edward Jarrell, James Jarrell and Kenneth Jarrell; her sisters, Peggy Weishuff, Mary Ramos and Cathy Arvell. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Hernandez was cremated and no formal services are planned at this time.

Mrs. Cooper

Mrs. Mildred Anna Lee Cooper, age 93, of Cedartown, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017.

She was born in Cedartown on March 13, 1924 a daughter of the late Charles Allen Boling and Roxie Elizabeth Rogers Boling.

Mrs. Cooper was a homemaker and a member of the Second Baptist Church of Cedartown.

She loved to work in her yard, enjoyed sewing, cooking, helping others and being around her family.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, John Clay, great grandson Aubrey Clay and a son in law Doug Forrister; her brothers: Paul, Joe and James Boling and a sister Myrtle Boling Vincent.

Survivors include daughters: Carla Forrister, Rene Runyon (Roy) and Anita Clay; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; sisters, Pat Isch and Evelyn Young; special friend, Lula Douglas; sister in law, Mary Ruth Boling and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the Smith and Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Timmy Jones officiating.

Interment followed in the Northview Cemetery.

The family received friends on Tuesday, June 20 prior to the service hour at the funeral home.

Pallbearers included: Joey Morton, Chris Tucker, Dennis Swindall, Brian Floyd, Ken Forrister and Jon Edwards. Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Mr. Mallette

Mr. Barry Lane Mallette, age 63,of Cedartown, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017 at his residence.

Mr. Mallette was born in Gainesville on Feb. 19, 1954 a son of Cary W. Mallette and Barbara Gower Mallette.

He had been a resident of Polk County since 1965 and was a 1972 graduate of Rockmart High School. He also graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Chemistry.

Mr. Mallette was a self employed contractor.

He was preceded in death by his father and by a nephew, Cary J. Mallette.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Mallette; sister, Tracy Stroup and brother Toby Mallette; several nephews and a number of great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dog, Chief.

In keeping with his wishes he was cremated and no services will be held.

Mr. Thompson

Mr. Quinton Billy Joe Thompson, age 25, of Rockmart passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017.

He was born in Cartersville on June 15, 1992 a son of Chadwick Jermaine Thompson and Karen Williams Thompson. He had lived all of his life in the Rockmart area where he was a 2011 graduate of Rockmart High School.

Mr. Thompson was saved on April 13, 2007 at Euharlee Baptist Church. He loved music, sewing and anything having to do with electronics. He was employed as a manager with Pizza Hut of Rockmart.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Henry Williams, and sister, Keanna Thompson.

Survivors include his parents Chadwick and Karen Thompson, Aragon; sister, Taylor Thompson, Rockmart; brothers: Jun-Jun Thompson, Jermonte Thompson and Justin Thompson all of Rockmart; grandmothers: Linda Williams, Aragon and Diana Thompson, Rockmart; grandfather, A.Z. Thompson, Dallas; great-grandmother, Louise Streetman; nephews: Kash Davis and Kailand Thompson; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A private funeral service was held Mr. Thompson.

Mr. Santiago

Mr. Francisco Pineda Santiago, age 58, of Cedartown, passed away Thursday June 15, 2017 in Brunswick.

He was born on Feb. 22, 1959 in Mexico a son of the late Ermelindo Grandes Guerrereo and Maria Santiago Medrano.

Mr. Santiago had been a resident of Cedartown for the past 22 years moving here from California.

He enjoyed trading cars, traveling and listening to music. Mr. Santiago was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Irma Pineda Pineda; seven children: Yvette Pineda, Ivone Pineda, Jose Anthony Pineda, Cesar Pineda Osorio, Maribel Pineda, Mauricia Pineda Osirio and Martha Pineda Osirio. Six grandchildren and nine brothers and sisters also survive.

Services for Mr. Santiago will be held Friday, June 23, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Smith and Miller Funeral Home with Father Timothy Gallagher officiating.

The family received friends Friday prior to the service hour at the Smith and Miller Funeral Home.

Interment followed on Saturday, June 24, 2017 in Northview Cemetery.

Mrs. Wisener

Mrs. Lisa Dawn Wisener, age 47, of Rockmart, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017.

Lisa was born in Florida on Feb. 23, 1970 a daughter of Floyd and Wilma Craig.

She had been a resident of the Polk County area for the past 29 years. Mrs. Wisener had attended the Wayside Baptist Church of Paulding County.

Survivors include her husband Arnold Wisener; three children: Tiffany Wisener, Justin Wisener and Alayna Wisener; six grandchildren; four sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 23, 2017 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home with Mark Deems officiating.

Interment followed in the Welcome Baptist Church Cemetery of Haralson County.

Pallbearers included: Justin, Allen and Logan Wisener, Michael Craig, Jeffrey Bright and Steven Craig.
