Mr. Smith

Mr. Charles Warren “Chuck” Smith, age 71 of Rockmart, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017.

Mr. Smith was born Oct. 13, 1945 in Aragon, son of the late Richard Anderson Smith and the late Evelyn Brumbelow Smith.

He was a graduate of the Rockmart High School Class of 1964 and a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Smith retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 30 years of service and was of the Baptist faith. He loved to read and work in his yard, but his greatest joy was having family cookouts.

Survivors included his wife, Sandra Allgood Smith to whom he was married Feb. 5, 1978; two daughters, Michelle Upton Wood and Melissa Upton Hobgood; son, Mike Upton all of Rockmart; sister, Nelle Smith Brown of Marietta; brother, Richard “Dickie” Smith of Rockmart; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith were held on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Owen (Bud) Davis Jr. officiating.

A eulogy was given by Mr. Ken Kite.

Interment services followed in the family lot of Rose Hill Cemetery with American Legion Brown-Wright Post #12 Honor Guard in charge of the military graveside rites.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Kenneth Kite, Matt Roberson, Keith Shuman, Chris Shuman, David Morgan and Lamar Roberson.

Honorary pallbearers were: Michael Hall, Jr., Mathew Hall, Max Hall, Michael Borders, Randy Ridley, Jeff Starling and Scott Smith.

Mr. Martin

Mr. Alton Joseph Martin - lovingly known as Pop - of Powder Springs passed away peacefully July 21, 2017 surrounded by his family.

He was born Jan. 1, 1928 in Talladega, Ala., to the late Newman and Mattie Martin.

Mr. Martin is a graduate of Aragon School and attended school in Rockmart.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army after World War II in Korea. After serving his country, he worked at Lockheed retiring after 32 years.

He then worked for 10 years in the Cobb County School system.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by wife Robilee Coalson Martin, 7 brothers, and 3 sisters.

He is survived by his daughter Elaine (Joe) Meaders of Newnan, and son Robert Scott Martin of Gainesville; 4 grandchildren: Mike Meaders (Tracey), Jennifer Pickett (Esmond), Jeff Martin (Misty) and Eddie Martin (Ashley), and 8 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his lifelong friend Doris Wolfe.

The Funeral Service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 23 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Macland Chapel in Powder Springs.

Interment followed at Powder Springs Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Kerr

Mr. Casey Ferrell Kerr, 46, of Cave Spring, died Friday morning, July 21, 2017, in a Rome hospital.

Born in Rome on March 29, 1971, Mr. Kerr was the son of Ferrell and Sandra Rosser Kerr.

Mr. Kerr attended Cave Spring School, and later Coosa School, and was a member of the Live Oak Baptist Church.

He had previously been employed by the Evans Construction Company. Mr. Kerr was an avid sports fan.

Mr. Kerr was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lindsey and Lula B. Highfield Rosser, and by his paternal grand-father, Ottis Vernon (Sam) Kerr.

Survivors include his two children, Cody William Blaylock of Rome, and Cassidy Paige Kerr of Cedartown, and his parents, Sandra and Ferrell Kerr of Cave Spring. His paternal grandmother, Mrs. Navaughnia Kerr and his sister, Ms. Michelle Kerr, both of Cave Spring, also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Kerr were held Sunday afternoon, July 23, 2017 at 4 p.m. at John House’s Cave Spring Chapel with Rev. Tommy Patterson officiating. Interment followed in the Rehoboth Community Cemetery.

Pallbearers included Mark Agan, Ethan Milliman, Kevin Hicks, Clint Patterson, Chris Graham, and Tim Shelton

Although Mr, Kerr fought long and hard battles and faced many struggles, they ended peacefully on July 21st, 2017. He will always be remembered as a loving, compassionate, outgoing, energetic, comical, and charismatic father, son, brother, uncle, and most of all friend.

Mr. Bailey

Mr. Gary Walter Bailey, age 60, of Cedartown, passed away on Thursday evening, July 20, 2017.

He was born on Aug. 20, 1956 in Anaheim, Calif., the son of Mr. John Bailey and the late Mrs. Ann Blake Bailey in Nov. 2016.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Bailey is survive by his father, John Bailey, his sons; Cody Bailey and Jessie, Brent Bailey and Breanna and Joshua Bailey; his daughters, Amber Lindic and Nick, Ashleigh Bailey and Rebecca Holt and Mike; a brother, Stephen Bailey; sisters, Dani and Dudley Horton, Diana and Michael Misud and Dori Bailey and eleven grandchildren.

A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The Funeral Service for Gary Walter Bailey were conducted on Sunday afternoon, July 23, 2017 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home.

Interment followed in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Dalton.

The Family of Mr. Bailey received friends on Sunday, July 23, 2017 prior the funeral hour at the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home.

Cody Bailey, Brent Bailey, Joshua Bailey and Curt Lockhart served as Pallbearers.

Mr. Brock

Mr. Richard Casey Brock, Sr., age 80 of Cedartown, passed away on July 19, 2017.

He was born on Oct. 10, 1936, the son of the late Garland W. and Brenda Lucas Brock.

Mr. Brock is survived by his wife, Marguerite (Peggy) Brock; daughter, Beverly Brock McCrillis, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Brock is preceded in death by his son, Richard Casey Brock Jr.; his parents; and brother, Garland Brock Jr.

The graveside service for Mr. Richard Casey Brock Sr. were conducted on Friday, July 21, 2017, at 12 p.m. at Polk Memory Gardens with Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating.

Mr. Owen

Mr. Carl Michael “Mike” Owen, age 52 of Rockmart passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017.

Mr. Owen was born August 8, 1964 in Marietta, son of Dianne Dillard Owen and the late Carl Millard Owen.

He attended Rockmart High School and was of the Baptist faith. He was a self-employed flooring installer and enjoyed music, singing, karaoke and playing the guitar.

Mr. Owen loved to socialize and have “fun”.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Amanda Dawn Owen Beck and Ashley Owen.

Survivors include a daughter, Katie Leigh Owen of Lizella; three sons, Michael Dale Owen and his wife Robin of Birmingham, AL, Kevin Neil Owen of Cedartown and Daniel Jordan Owen of Lizella; mother, Dianne Owen of Rockmart; sister, Patricia D. Owen Spangler and her husband Charles of Rockmart; brother, Johnny Lee Owen of Rockmart; two grandchildren, Brayden Owen and Elliot Owen; and companion, Elaine Franklin.

Funeral services for Mr. Owen were held on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Mr. Lonnie Sheffield officiating.

Interment services followed in the family lot of the Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Irving

Mr. Leopold E. Irving, age 93 of Buchannan, passed away on July 17, 2017.

He was born on July 24, 1923, the son of the late Clifford and Lillian Mansfield Irving.

Mr. Irving is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Lynch and Hazel Irving Jean-Louis (Alix); son, Norman Irving (Brenda); sisters, Vivianne Daly and Gloria Fredericks; brother, Oswald Irving; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Irving is preceded in death by his wife, Vera C. Irving; his parents; sisters, Annie Irving and Marjorie Herold; and brother, Aubrey Irving.

The memorial services for Mr. Leopold E. Irving was held on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at 3 p.m. at the St. James Episcopal Church with father Kemper Anderson officiating.

Mrs. Jones

Mrs. Jeanette Goss Kirk Jones, age 82, of Bremen, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017.

She was born in Polk County, May 8, 1935, daughter of the late Reverend Jett E. Goss and Frances Roberson Goss.

Mrs. Jones was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bremen.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Gene Kirk; three sisters, Mildred Amerson, Geraldine (Jeri) Terry Schmid, Sara Chandler Over De Vest; a brother, Howell Goss; nephew, Gregory Amerson and a great nephew, Shayne Terry.

Survivors include her husband, Reverend William E. ‘Junior’ Jones Jr. of Bremen; five daughters, Gina Kirk of Miami, FL, Karen Kirk, Bremen, Susan and Mike Reyher of Bremen, Lisa and Scott Evans, Bremen, Anita and Gregg Yancey of Carrollton; granddaughters, Moriah Kirk, Emily Yancey and Maggie Yancey; three sisters, Fay Tarbush of Powder Springs, Annie Gray, Rockmart, Linda and Bill Singleton of Rockmart; brothers, Joe and Judy Goss, Don ‘Gene’ and Brenda Goss, Charles and Janice Goss all of Cedartown and a sister-in-law, Emma Spinks of Rockmart, nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

The family received friends at the Hightower Funeral Home of Bremen on Thursday evening, July 20, 2017.

Funeral Services were conducted on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 11 a.m. from the First Baptist Church of Bremen with Brother Herman Parker, Reverend Fred Cook and Mr. Gregg Yancey officiating. Music will be furnished by the Kirk Girls accompanied by Maxine House.

Interment followed in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Rosenberger

Mrs. Glenda Hope Rosenberger, age 70, of Cedartown passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Rosenberger was born in Rome, on Aug. 27, 1946, a daughter of the late Doice Chandler Sr. and Nellie Jackson Chandler.

Her family had moved from Cedartown to New Jersey in 1953 to open the Chandler Clothing Store where she worked for many years. She moved back to Cedartown in 2011 to be back home near family after the death of her husband Leroy Rosenberger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Doice Chandler Jr..

Mrs. Rosenberger is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Todd (Jim) of Pennsville, New Jersey; sons: Kevin Rosenberger (Michelle) of Cedartown and Kent Rosenberger (Kim) of Maryland; grandchildren: Kristina Todd, Santana Todd, Kayla Rosenberger, Gavin Rosenberger and Camden Rosenberger, several cousins also survive.

Graveside funeral and interment services were held Monday, July 17, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jason Purser officiating.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Kevin Rosenberger, Kent Rosenberger, Matthew Jones, Brent Parris and Jimmy Parris.

Mrs. Davis

Mrs. Nancy “Nan” Rose Davis, age 83 of Syracuse, Ohio formerly of Cedartown, passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at the Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W. Va.

Mrs. Davis was born Aug. 13, 1934 in Cedartown, daughter of the late Bob and Pattie (West) Casey.

She was a member of the Victory Baptist Church of Syracuse and retired from the Peoples Bank as head teller after 40 years of service.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Wallace Van Davis Sr. and John William Davis Sr.; son, Wally Davis; brothers, Robert (Geneva) Casey and Fred (Sarah) Casey.

Survivors included her children, John W. Davis Jr. of Syracuse, Stan (Alane) Davis of Cedartown; three grandchildren, Stan Davis Jr., Ashley Davis and Cassidy Davis; brothers, Dan (Joan) Casey of Rockmart and Pat (Louise) Casey of Cedartown.

Funeral graveside services for Mrs. Davis were held on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 1 p.m. in the Letart Falls Cemetery with Pastor James Keesee officiating.

Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home of Pomeroy, Ohio was in charge of the funeral graveside service for Mrs. Nancy “Nan” Rose Davis.

Mr. Danley

Mr. Richard Thomas “Ricky” Danley, age 53 of Ellijay, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017.

Mr. Danley was born Dec. 11, 1963 in Paulding County, son of Deaner Amy Fennell Harrell and John Kenneth Danley.

He attended Hiram High School and was employed in the construction industry.

Survivors included two children, Stephanie Danley and Shane Danley; mother, Amy Fennell Harrell of Rockmart; father, John Kenneth Danley of Ellijay; sister, Rhonda L. Danley of Dallas; two brothers, John R. Danley of Rockmart and Kenneth Wayne Danley of Ellijay.
