Mrs. Wood

Mrs. Frances Holbrooks Wood, age 91, of Cedartown, passed away on Thursday morning, Feb. 9, 2017.

Mrs. Wood, the former Frances L. Holbrooks, was born on Sept. 26, 1925 in Polk County and had lived her whole life here. She was the daughter of the late John Watson Holbrooks and Mattie Brazier Holbrooks.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Herman E. Wood, Sr. who passed away on Nov. 4, 1994, a sister, Dorothy Elizabeth Holbrooks Lyon on June 24, 2006, a sister in law, Mrs. Evelyn Sloman Holbrooks on April 5, 1984, a brother in law, J.T. Lyon on June 1, 2003, and a brother, Ernest Paul Holbrooks on Feb. 10, 2013.

She was an active member of the Harmony Baptist Church. She loved her church family and served as past Treasurer for 25 years.

Prior to her retirement on Oct. 31, 1991, she was employed by the Henkel Corporation for 25 years as a Lab Technician.

Mrs. Frances Wood is survived by, one son and daughter in law, Herman E. Wood Jr. and Joanna Wood of Marietta; her granddaughter, Mattie Wood of Marietta; one sister, Mrs. Beatrice Mobbs of Armuchee; one brother, J.W. Holbrooks of Cedartown; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside and Interment services for Mrs. Frances Holbrooks Wood were conducted on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 11, 2017 at 3 p.m. in the Polk Memory Gardens with the Rev. Mark Purser officiating.

The family received friends on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 11, 2017 prior to the graveside service hour at the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home.

The following Gentlemen were asked to serve as pallbearers: Randy Holbrooks, Shawn Mobbs, Dale Gable, Cain Holbrooks, Richard Machan and Aaron Holbrooks. Honorary pallbearers included: John Holbrooks, III, Edward Yarborough, Dewayne Williams, Morris Collins and Dustin Yarborough.

Mrs. Woodard

Mrs. Betty Jean Woodard, age 84, of Rockmart, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017 in a Rome medical center.

She was born in Waynesville, N.C. on Dec. 4, 1932, a daughter of Robert Buchanan and Anna Paris Buchanan.

Mrs. Woodard had been a resident of Rockmart for the past 22 years, moving here from Marietta.

She was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church of Dallas, and was a longtime employee of Walmart, working in the Hiram location as a greeter.

Mrs. Woodard enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, growing flowers and spending time with her dog, LaLa.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Woodard on Aug. 27, 1993; by four brothers: Robert, Glenn, Claude and Floyd Buchanan and by a sister, Grace Sizemore.

Survivors include two daughters: Linda White (Lamar), Rockmart and Shelia Smith (Rusty), Rockmart; son, James Woodard (Glenna), Acworth; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and longtime companion, Duane Wilson, Rockmart.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 1, 2107 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Teal officiating.

Interment followed in the Taylorsville Cemetery.

The Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mrs. Betty Jean Woodard.

Mrs. Ash

Mrs. Mary Frances Ash, age 92, of Cedartown, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017.

Mrs. Ash was born Feb. 10, 1924 to the late Walter S. and Ottie Mae Brooks, and was also preceded in death by Her husband James M. Ash, brothers Jack Brooks, Bob Brooks and a sister Evelyn Shackelford. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cedartown.

Surviving are her son David L. Ash and a number of Nieces and Nephews.

Keeping with her request her body will be cremated and a private interment service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Collins

Mrs. Gloria Fay Jordan Collins, age 86 of Cedartown, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017.

She was born on Nov. 1, 1930 in Cedartown, the daughter of the late William Ralph and Mildred English Jordan.

Mrs. Collins is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Dan DeYoung; sons and daughter-in-laws, Keith and Pam Collins and Scott and Becky Collins; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Collins is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles William Collins; sister, Harriett Winderweedle and brother, Norman Jordan.

A graveside service for Mrs. Gloria Fay Jordan Collins was conducted on Friday, Feb.10, 2017 at 3 p.m. in the Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Billy Thomas officiating.

The family of Mrs. Collins received family and friends on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017 prior to the graveside service hour at Gammage Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brand

Mrs. Lora Marie “NaNa” Brand, age 58, of Silver Creek, passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2017 in a Rome medical center following a 3 year illness.

She was born in Calhoun on Oct. 20, 1958, a daughter of James Terrell Little and Johnnie Marie Carver Little.

Mrs. Brand had lived all of her life in Floyd County, enjoyed sun bathing at the beach and collecting sea shells. She enjoyed listening to the preaching of John Hagee through his Global Evangelism Television ministry.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers: Joe and Dan Little and a sister, Karen Elizabeth Little.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny L. Brand; two daughters: Julie Marie Moore and Crystal Lynn Martin; four grandsons: C.J. Thomasson, Shawn Moore, Jacob Chubb and Nate Martin all of Silver Creek.

In keeping with her wishes, Mrs. Brand was cremated and no formal services were held.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial gifts be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Robinson

Mrs. Margaret Gillespie Robinson, age 86 of Cedartown, passed away on Monday, Feb. 6, 2017.

She was born on Oct. 1, 1930 in Clare, Mich., the daughter of the late James “Jimmy” and Leta Bebe Gillespie.

Mrs. Margaret lived her life being a good steward. She was always the first one to take food and well wishes to the sick and families of the recently departed. She loved to host dinners for school and church activities.

She was an active member of First United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women’s group. She thrived on making holidays and special occasions memorable.

Mrs. Margaret was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She touched the hearts and minds of those around her. She will be dearly missed.

Mrs. Robinson is survived by her loving husband, Keith D. Robinson; daughters and son-in-laws, Pamela R. Smith (Dee), Deborah Gardner (Robert) and Lee Ann Dempsey (David); son and daughter–in-law, Brian Robinson (Michelle); seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Robinson is preceded in death by her parents; son, Mark Robinson and sisters, Vena Lee Hardesty and Sally Murphy.

In keeping with her wishes’ she was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later time.

Mrs. Stroup

Mrs. Ruth Overbey Stroup, age 93, of Cedartown, passed away on Monday morning, Feb. 6, 2017.

Mrs. Stroup was born on Feb. 26, 1923 in New Orleans, La., the daughter of the late Herman Overbey and the late Annie Lou Strickland Overbey.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Jean Lee; her sisters, Judy Overbey and Ila Sisson; and her brothers, Frank Overbey and Hiram Overbey.

Ruth Overbey Stroup is survived by her sons and daughters in law, Windell Lyle and Annette and Frankie Langley and Deborah; her daughters and son in law, Sue Lyle Jackson and Melecia Griffin and Michael; her brother and sister in law, Sammy Strickland and Doris; nine grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and a number of great great great grandchildren. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth were conducted on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 8, 2017 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home with Rev. Talmadge Pope officiating.

Interment followed in the North View Cemetery.

The Family received friends on Tuesday evening, Feb. 7, 2017 at the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home.

Mr. Gray

Mr. David Gray, 84 of Vincennes, Ind., and former Cedartown resident, 84, passed away at 2:07 a.m. on Feb. 6, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital.

He was born on March 31, 1932 in Knox County the son of John Morton and Alice N. (Gibbs) Gray.

Mr. Gray married Jacqueline Mary Ann Thorne on March 10, 1951 and she preceded him in death on March 12, 1988.

He then married Linda Carr on Jan. 20, 2012 and she preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2016.

Mr. Gray was a 1950 graduate of Fritchton High School and was known as Big Tall Dave Gray back in his basketball playing days.

He retired in 1988 from Jefferson Smurfit Paper Company after several years as a paper maker. During his career, there were 3 types of recycle paper machines and he worked on all 3 at different times.

Mr. Gray had a passion for making paper and he enjoyed his time with his family.

Survivors include his sons, Bill Gray and his fiancé Delores Lane of Vincennes, Greg Gray and his wife Brenda of Cedartown, Jeff Gray and his wife Kim of Cedartown, Ken Gray and his wife Pam of Loraine, Ill.; daughter, Kathy McCary and her husband Alan of Winston; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Jacqueline Mary Ann Gray; infant son David Gray Jr.; and his second wife Linda Gray.

There will be a graveside service held at a later date.

Goodwin Funeral Home had been entrusted with David’s final arrangements.

Mrs. Thefield

Mrs. Jerrie Lee Dunn Thefield, age 78, of Cedartown, passed away on Sunday evening, Feb. 5, 2017 following an extended illness.

She was born on Sept. 19, 1938 in Rockmart, the daughter of the late Wesley Dunn and the late Annie Lee Wrye Dunn.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Wesley Dunn.

Mrs. Thefiled’s wishes were to be cremated and a private graveside service will be held.

Ms. Eaves

Ms. Susan Ann Eaves, age 69, of Cedartown, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017.

She was born on July 9, 1947 in Cedartown, the daughter of the late Herbert B. “Buck” and Gladys E. Heath Eaves.

Ms. Eaves is survived by her sisters and brother-in-laws, Betty Jean Chafin (Jimmy), Linda Faye Pope, Vickie Pegg (Joe) and Shenia Wester; brother, David Eaves and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral arrangements for Ms. Susan Ann Eaves will be conducted on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Mr. Jerome Heath officiating.

Interment followed in the New Harmony Baptist Church cemetery.

The family of Ms. Eaves received family and friends on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017 at the Gammage Funeral Home.

Mr. Youngblood

Mr. Johnny William Youngblood, age 69, of Cedartown, passed away on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017.

He was born on Sept. 5, 1947, the son of the late John F. and Mary Lou Blythe Youngblood.

Mr. Youngblood is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Bobbie Youngblood, and Chad Youngblood; grandchildren, Taylor Youngblood, Makenzy Youngblood, and Trevor Spinks; sister, Mary Johnson; brother-in-law, Frank Hondett.

Mr. Youngblood is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dot Willingham, and Sara Brock Hondett; brothers-in-law, Monroe Johnson, “Pud” Willingham, and Clark Brock.

The funeral arrangements for Mr. Johnny W. Youngblood were conducted on Tuesday Feb. 7, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the afternoon at Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Earl Partain and Rev. Danny Tucker officiating.

Interment followed in Northview Cemetery with Rev. Tony Shubert officiating.

The family of Mr. Youngblood received family and friends on Monday evening, Feb. 6, 2017 at the Gammage Funeral Home.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Scott Brock, David Willingham, Rodney Johnson, John Pilgrim, Tom McClure, and Adam Willingham.

The following gentlemen served as honorary pallbearers: Greg Swafford, Randy Stephens, along with the City of Cedartown’s Fire Department.
