WELSHfest 2017

Rockmart residents gathered on Saturday for the 6th annual WELSHfest held in downtown around the Rockmart History Museum and provided a variety of events and entertainment for local Welsh lovers.

WELSHfest Heritage Days is coming up in a few more day, with a whole slew of events and fun planned in for the 2018 WELSHfest in downtown Rockmart.

This weekend, the community is invited to come out and participate in a day to show off Welsh pride, with music and hymn singing, welly wanging, bike rides, a kilt contest, medieval activities, Children’s events, a tearoom and much more.

On Friday night, Van Wert Church will host a hymn singing as part of the event, followed on Saturday of tours of the historic church as well.

The even will include 58 vendors participating and will be held in the downtown Rockmart area. Food services included in the lineup are Timbo’s Smokehouse, Georgia Concession Lady, Sweet Tooth Creations, Susan Davis’ pork rinds, boiled peanuts, cotton candy, our local vendors of the Farmer’s Market, Girl Scouts Cookies, Lion’s Club with Funnel Cakes, Nana’s Cooking with Fish and Chips, Desserts and Fried Chicken.

The annual event seeks to celebrate Welsh heritage in Rockmart, where the first settlers built the earliest log structure in 1846 on the north side of the present day cemetery at Van Wert Church in what was then Paulding County, now Polk County.

WELSHfest is organized as a fundraiser to provide financial support for The Rockmart History Museum and restoration and preservation of present day Van Wert Church.
