Students from Cedartown High School gathered once again at the Pizza Hut on North Main Street for a special project that in past months has helped the restaurant gain notoriety among others in the area.
The CHS Art Club previously provided the store with window artwork during the fall, and now have painted up the windows with a winter and holiday themes.
“This was a combination of different ideas from different members of the art club,” said CHS Art Teacher and club advisor Joyce Lyday. “They really have ownership because much of the artwork is from their design.”
Students came up with the ideas, she put together rough drafts and they did the work on the windows, which had benefits for all.
Lyday said her students in the club get to put their art skills to good use in a practical way while also enjoying pizza.
“It gives them an actual real life experience that is art,” she said. “They don’t get much opportunity to do that, and the other plus is they get really nice feedback from the community.”
And for the store’s part, the fall-themed window paintings won the Cedartown Pizza Hut a sweet treat when they were named winners in a contest in November among area stores for the best decorations. They hope to win again.
It is just the latest window artwork the club has provided for community businesses in the past years, and they hope that other storeowners will be interested in getting their windows painted up in the coming year. Lyday said those interested in organizing a project for the club can contact her by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call CHS at 770-748-0490.
