A 17-year-old student from Rockmart High School was arrested on Thursday following a lockdown of the Polk School District.

Police arrested Rockmart High School junior Zoriah Erin McCrae on two counts of terroristic threats and acts after their investigation concluded she had sent a Snapchat message threatening violence at Cedartown and Rockmart high schools.

Additionally, McCrae will face two counts of disrupting a public school, and more charges are pending according to a press release from the Rockmart Police Department. She remained at the Polk County Jail this morning without bond.

Ultimately no students were injured during Thursday's lockdown.

"Through a consolidated effort between the Rockmart Police Department, Cedartown Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Georgia State Patrol, Polk County Police Department, Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Aragon Police Department, schools in Polk County were placed on lockdown for several hours today," the release stated. "All agencies worked together with the goal being the safety of the students, faculty and staff at all our schools."

The release from Rockmart Police added: "We would like to commend the teachers and school staff for keeping students calm and secure in their classrooms, Polk School District for their communication with parents, and parents for their patience with law enforcement and allowing us to do our job. While a late student release was inconvenient, our goal was the safety of our children."

Cedartown Police Chief Jamie Newsome, who reported that a person of interest was taken into custody for questioning, said that individual was eventually released without any issue. However, one teen who decided having to sit through the lockdown was an inconvenience is instead sitting in a jail cell this morning as well.

Newsome said that 17-year-old Cedartown High student Russell Ty Norris was jailed on a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of law enforcement officers after he tried to leave the campus during Thursday afternoon's lockdown.

The teen remained in jail this morning without bail on the obstruction charge as well.
