The soccer season is just starting to heat up in Cedartown and Rockmart, and both school’s boys and girls programs will be busy in the weeks ahead as region play is just right around the corner.

In a big rivalry game between the Cedartown and Rockmart boys soccer programs, the Bulldogs came out on top with a 10-0 shutout over the Jacket boys, who fell to 1-1 on the season.

The Bulldogs stand at 1-1 on the season as well, having taken a loss earlier last week to Cass in a 6-1 contest.

The Lady Bulldogs have had a tougher run of things lately, standing at 0-1-1 in the early season. They didn’t play a rivalry game against Rockmart, and started their season instead at home against Pepperell in a 2-2 tie after four overtimes on Feb. 6.

Cedartown’s girls then got tangled up with the Colonels as well last Tuesday, dropping a 10-1 game at Cass before getting a week off.

Cedartown’s girls team is back in action this week at Woodland on Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m., followed by a trip to East Paulding next Wednesday with the boys as well in 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. games.

The boys team were also set to play against Calhoun after press time on Tuesday afternoon on the road in a non-region contest.

Cedartown’s region schedule starts with Sandy Creek and Troup County at home next Thursday and following on March 9, with more games on the schedule later in the month as well.

Rockmart’s girls team still stands at 1-0 after their win at Temple earlier in the year, and didn’t have their second game on the books until Trion this week.

The Jackets and Lady Jackets host Trion this Thursday for their latest game before they head to Chattooga next Monday in 6 and 8 p.m. contests. They’ll host Pepperell the following day at 5 and 7:30 p.m. as the region schedule continues for both teams into early March at Dade County next Friday, and then back home on March 6 to host Armuchee.
