  • Lady Bulldogs take a tie against Pepperell

Cedartown and Rockmart’s soccer programs are back on the pitch as teams traveled to kick off the 2018 season, with a trio of teams already playing in big games.

The Jackets and Lady Jackets both picked up wins in their first games, while the Lady Bulldogs played to a tie in early season contests.

Rockmart put up a 8-0 victory over visiting Temple in the Lady Jackets season opener, putting up two goals in the first half and piled on six more to hold the Lady Tigers scoreless in the home opener on Feb. 6.

Following that, the Rockmart boys ended up in a shootout with Temple and only got the win after going 3-1 in penalty kicks. The Jackets held a 2-1 lead in the first half, and were able to add another goal over the Tigers who tied up the game and sent play into overtime.

The pair of wins put the Jackets and Lady Jackets both at 1-0 on the young season, with Rockmart’s boys hosting Cedartown on Thursday in a rivalry matchup featuring only the boys teams. The Lady Jackets aren’t back on the schedule until Feb. 22 when they face the Trion Lady Bulldogs.

Cedartown’s team sits at 0-0-1 on the season after pulling out a tie following a shootout against Pepperell when neither team scored on penalty kicks after ending in a 2-2 tie, and going scoreless through overtime.

The Lady Bulldogs were set to play again after press time against Cass on Tuesday, weather pending. The boys team also faces Cass to open their season as well, before traveling to Rockmart later in the season.
