A Rockmart woman is facing additional charges after she is alleged to have started a fire in a residence she was evicted from days before, according to police.
Det. Jerry Amos said that Sireta Patel, 46, of 303 Eagle View Court, Rockmart, was arrested on Feb. 11 on a criminal trespass charge after she was found at the scene of a fire that by her own admission had been her home until Feb. 8, when she was forced out of the 500 Goodyear Ave. residence.
The fire was small and mainly caused smoke damage, mainly fueled by bags of her own belongings and a child's inflatable pool, Amos said.
"There had been no power inside the residence for at least a month, and there was no thunderstorms to produce ground lightning," Amos said.
He added that Patel was initially charged and taken into custody late Saturday night on the criminal trespass charge, then received an additional charge on Thursday, Feb. 15 for first degree arson.
She was later released from jail on both charges on $11,400 in combined bond.
