Rockmart thespians perform Sweeney Todd

FILE - Rockmart drama students put on a production of “Sweeney Todd” this past week and weekend at the Rockmart Theatre. They opened the show on March 23 and closed it on March 26, 2017, the biggest production they’ve put on this year.

Rockmart High School's thespians are looking to bring the magic of Disney to the city with their upcoming performance of "Beauty and the Beast."

The theatre department performs a musical every spring, and with casting already decided, the production promises to feature new and returning talent.

The cult-classic story features performers such as Alli Streetman as Belle, Ethan Gober as Beast, Anna Snider as Mrs. Potts, Isaac Gober as Gaston, Adrian Locklear as Cogsworth, Branson Lewis as Lumiere, Rob Laltrello as Chip, Riley Miller as Lefou, Seth Redmond as D'Argue, Daisy Trim as Bouche, Chloe Green as Babette and Andrew Lumpkin as Maurice.

The ensemble is packed with names such as Sierra Post, Hannah Akien, Sadie Jacobs, Makayla Smith, Myra Browning, Gracie Tan, Caroline Richardson, Chloe Peace, Abby Fennell, Daphne Trim, Payton Goodson, Reese Mann, Kenzie Pinkerton, and Rayanna Shaw.

'Beauty and the Beast' will proceed last year's 'Sweeney Todd.' Other musicals performed by Rockmart include 'Into the Woods,' 'Legally Blonde,' and 'Seussical,' among others. The school originally had plans to perform 'Grease' but scrapped the idea.
