A car chase that started on Highway 278 in the Rockmart area ended with a crash and an arrest in Cedartown this morning, according to Polk County police on the scene.

Patrolman Cody McBride was on Highway 278 when he said he clocked a silver late model BMW going 73 mph with radar. He said he pulled onto the roadway and attempted to pull over the car, “when the driver floored it to 120 mph,” he said.

“They were going at 100 mph on East Avenue when the chase ended with a crash,” he said.

Neither occupant was hurt when the BMW struck an air conditioning unit at Gladden Services and came to a stop.

McBride said the driver, Ty Christian Trimble, 40, then got out of the car and was apprehended after a short foot chase at Cedartown Automotive. He so far faces reckless driving charge.

More charges are pending against Trimble, McBride said.
