School board response to hiring of Dr. Darrell Wetherington as superintendent following retirement of Dr. William Hunter
The current process for hiring the School Superintendent in Polk County does not set a precedent.
The Superintendent prior to Dr. Hunter was Mr. Marvin Williams, his predecessor, Dr Sorrells, retired on April 30, 2007.
Mr. Williams Rockmart High School Principal, was appointed interim Superintendent at the same meeting.
Mr. Williams was hired as Superintendent on June 12, 2007, which was the first regular scheduled Board Meeting to comply with the two week period required by the Board of Education, to publish the names or name of the selected Superintendent nominee.
This Board of Education has followed the same path as previous Boards in making this decision.
