Letter to the editor

The veterans of Cedartown have been extremely fortunate to have had a tremendous veteran’s advocate for the past dozen years in Mr. Marvin C. Hampton, who with his wife Jean, has dedicated hours of effort and sacrifice in the construction and operation of Cedartown’s Veterans Memorial Park. Since the park’s November 2002 dedication, Mr. Hampton has directed at least two patriotic programs annually, on Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day.

Marvin has had numerous veterans helping him over the years. Some of the many members of his support team were Larry Dooley, Kenneth Roberts, David Ferguson, Bobby Alexander, Luther Clemons, Ken Roberts, Ronnie Wood, Leonard Draper, and Spencer (Greezy) Willis, to name but a few.

The Brewster-Cleveland American Legion Post 86 of Cedartown has been most supportive of the Veteran’s Park from its conception.

Mr. Hampton has recently decided to step down from this worthy project to allow some of the younger patriots to share the load. Rest assured Mr. Hampton, you have done a tremendous job with the Veterans Memorial Park and all the citizens salute you for your efforts.
