Along the walls of a local elementary school, the branches and roots of an idea to promote children to see good in the world continues to spread forth.
Starting outside the room of Van Wert Elementary School teacher Christine Sisneros, the Kindness Tree is growing as part of an effort earlier this week to honor World Kindness Day, celebrated on Monday, Nov. 13.
"We started the tree to spread kindness throughout Van Wert," she said. "We plan on leaving the tree up all year in hopes it will grow around the school."
Sisneros said that when students perform an act of kindness, the idea is to record it and post it up on the wall, spreading the branches of the symbolic tree throughout the school in an effort to promote positive ideas in the community.
"We're hoping that parents and students will e-mail photos showing us acts of kindness so we can continue to watch it grow, even outside the walls of our school," she said.
So far, it extends as far as the lunchroom at Van Wert Elementary.
Those parents and students who want to share their act of kindness at Van Wert can e-mail Sisneros with photos at email@example.com.
