A child who was attacked by a dog Thursday afternoon is home from the hospital and recovering this weekend.
A three-year-old child, identified by his mom Patricia Anderson as her son Luke, was airlifted by Lifeflight to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite from the Rockmart area after the family pet bit him on the head.
"He's got a rough couple of weeks ahead of him," Anderson posted on Facebook late last week after Luke returned home from the Atlanta-area hospital. "Thankful to CHOA, all the responders who took care of him when I wasn't around, an amazing babysitter who acted quickly and maturely, and all the family and friends that rallied around us."
According to a Polk County police report on the incident, Luke had been "picking at the dog" and had grabbed its back left leg when the dog turned around and bit him on the head and face. Anderson was at work in the Atlanta-area at the time of the incident.
Two severe lacerations required the helicopter flight for Luke to Scottish Rite, but there he received stitches.
The dog was quickly taken into custody by police who arrived at the scene and reported what happened, and then was turned over to Animal Control.
