Mark the calendar for September 14, for that will be the day that local residents will finally get their fill of Chick-fil-A in Rockmart.
The new location for the restaurant chain is coming up in just over three weeks said Zach Thomas, the new franchise owner for the Rockmart store.
Progress on construction for the new location has moved along swiftly through the summer months, and now Thomas and new team members will be ready to open up for customers in the middle of the coming month.
He said that hiring has slowed down for his location, but he's still taking applications for those who are seeking a job and think Chick-fil-A might be the right fit for them.
"We're always looking for great talent," Thomas said. "But we're slowing down currently in terms of number of people we need for the store at the moment."
Thomas said those interested in applying can go to leaderfarming.com to find out how to submit their information for consideration.
Back on Aug. 15, First Baptist Church of Rockmart hosted an information event about hiring for the store, where a number of people signed up seeking employment at the new restaurant.
Meanwhile, Thomas said he's also been working hard to get the community excited for the upcoming grand opening celebration.
He's been using Facebook and other social media outlets as a vehicle to put the word out about the progress at Chick-fil-A, and said that it's been gaining plenty of traction with thousands of views, hundreds of likes and shares and more within just a day of getting new information out about the restaurant.
Thomas said along with posting online, the Chick-fil-A team locally has also been reaching out into the community at events and through sports.
Chick-fil-A recently setup a booth of their own at the 40th annual Homespun Festival, and are now involved in a new Player of the Week program with Cedartown and Rockmart High Schools.
Each week players from both teams are selected postgame to receive the award, which includes custom printed game balls provided by Chick-fil-A each week along with publication of the award here in the pages of the Standard Journal.
Last week's winner of the game ball was Tony Mathis Jr. at Cedartown.
Winners will also be picked at the Chick-fil-A in Rockmart during their upcoming grand opening in the First 100 competition at the store, with details available on how to participate and the rules involved at chick-fil-a.com/legal#first_100.
It's just one of a number of events that Chick-fil-A will be taking part in during the week leading up to the store's opening.
On Monday, Sept. 11, they'll have a playground dedication at 4 p.m. and an invitation-only premiere night afterward with Thomas and his family and friends.
Several invitation-only events will follow through the week, with a pastor's breakfast planned for Tuesday, a dedication dinner later that night, a registration time for the First 100 contest on Wednesday starts at 6 a.m., a meal packaging program for the Feeding Children Everywhere program will happen at 1 p.m., and ongoing activities through the day too.
The restaurant will open officially at 6 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, followed by a 9 a.m. ribbon cutting.
