Chick-fil-A preview lunch

A large group of people filled up the Chick-fil-A's location in Rockmart set to open on Thursday for an invite-only lunch today.

It's almost time for the new Chick-fil-A in Rockmart to open, and owner Zach Thomas said that he and his team are ready for the first customers to come in on Thursday morning to enjoy breakfast.

But before all of that, the staff got put through their paces for an invite-only lunch this afternoon ahead of the opening on Sept. 14 at 6 a.m.

"We're all really excited about the opening, it's just finally here," Thomas said. "We have 27 trainers from across the country, two from as far as Idaho and some from as close as Cartersville. For the most part they'll be running the restaurant for the next week, and then hand it off to my people as they train."

He said the First 100 lineup contest for those customers who arrive when the restaurant first opens begins tomorrow morning at 6 a.m., and he is advising those who want the chance at free Chick-fil-A for a year to need to arrive earlier than that for consideration.

"The First 100 contest in Carrollton was supposed to start today and got cancelled, so we think we might have some overflow from it," Thomas said. "So if folks want to come out and take part in it, they need to get here early. Registration starts at 6, but we expect people to start lining up before then."

Thomas, who previously owned a store in the metro Atlanta area, said he's glad to be opening the store "back home."

"It's a platform we have with Chick-fil-A to help make a difference in the community," Thomas said. "That's our biggest goal of all."
