• Bulldogs and Jackets face bumps in the road in early-season play.

The soccer season is well underway for the Bulldogs and Jackets programs, splitting wins and losses in the early weeks of play on the pitch for the boys and girls teams.

Cedartown’s boys took a 6-0 loss early last week, with the Calhoun Jackets scored three goals a piece each half.. The boys got back into the win column against Woodland in their second game with a 3-1 win over the Wildcats on the road. The Bulldogs scored all three of their goals during the second half, along with the Wildcats getting their only goal as well.

That moved the boys team to 2-2 on the season as they prepared for an upcoming match at East Paulding for the first of two games of the week. Cedartown plays Sandy Creek at home to open region play on Friday.

Cedartown’s girls also played at Woodland to return to the schedule last Thursday, but a score wasn’t immediately available at press time for the match. They’re back in business this week at East Paulding as well, with region play to follow.

Meanwhile, across the county Rockmart’s boys and girls are seeing mixed results of their own on the pitch.

The Jackets stand at 1-2, taking a loss to Trion on the road in a 10-2 loss, outscored each half 5-1 when the team went up against the Bulldogs.

The Lady Jackets also played last Thursday against Trion in their second match of the season. Rockmart’s girls took a 3-0 win over the Lady Bulldogs to move to 2-0 on the young season.

Both teams were set to play on Monday at Chattooga, then host Pepperell in region matchups, with an additional trip in store later this week at Dade County.

Next week, Rockmart gets a pair of home games against Armuchee before a break in the schedule following the March 6 home stand.

Cedartown host Troup County on March 9 as region play continues for the program as well.
