Cedartown Powerball Winner August 2017

Pam Holland of Cedartown won a $50,000 jackpot on her first ever Powerball ticket.

ATLANTA - Pamelia Holland of Cedartown has cracked a new case. Holland recently won a prize of $50,000 from the Aug. 12 Powerball drawing after purchasing her first Powerball ticket.

Winning numbers from the Aug. 12 drawing were: 20-24-26-35-49 and the Powerball was 19.

Madi Food Mart, located at 803 N. Main St. in Cedartown, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket.

According to Holland, an investigator for the Polk County Public Defender Office, the lucky ticket was the first Powerball ticket that she’s ever purchased.

“The jackpot was high, so I went ahead and bought a ticket,” she said. “I’d never bought a Powerball ticket before.”

After scanning the ticket on a lottery terminal and discovering that she’d won, Holland claimed that she was in shock.

“I wasn’t sure if it was correct,” she said. “I just went and sat in the car and called my kids.”

Holland stated that she intends to save the majority of her winnings.

“I just still can’t believe it,” she said.

The 57-year-old claimed her prize last week at the Georgia Lottery’s Dalton District Office.

Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot is an estimated $700 million to a single annuity winner.

Powerball tickets are $2 per play.

As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Powerball will benefit education in the state of Georgia.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $18.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.4 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
