The Nathan Dean Community Center will play host next Tuesday to a chance for the community to continue to show their support for those who need a lifesaving gift in medical facilities around the area.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross will be out from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. taking blood donations at the Goodyear Street community center in Rockmart on Nov. 14, and they need as many donated pints as they can get in order to ensure an adequate supply for use in local area hospitals.

This coming drive isn’t being held in anyone’s memory or honor, according to local organizers, but they are asking that people in the spirit of giving ahead of the holidays use this chance to give another person a chance to survive.

Requirements for donating include being at least 17 years of age, weighing at least 110 pounds and to give whole blood, not having given in at least the past 56 days.

Around 4 percent of people give annually, a drastically small amount compared to those who use up the blood supply in hospitals during surgical procedures and in tranfusions.
