Mayor Ken Suffridge has presented plaques to Beverly Clinton and Patricia Jackson, outgoing city council members, in recognition of their years of service.

“An era in Aragon has ended,” Suffridge said as he made the presentation during the group’s December meeting.

Clinton served for 17 years and Jackson for two separate four-year terms.

“They now join a list of other women who have been elected to a position on the Aragon council,” he said. “They are Annette Bishop, Joan Freemen, Shirley Elders, Carolyn Davis, Sadie Pittman and Brenda Gazaway.”

Following the presentation, Clinton and Jackson expressed thanks to Aragon citizens for support during their tenures.

They also extended congratulations to incoming councilmen Duel Mitchell and Keven Pruett, who will assume their posts in January 2014.

“It is interesting that we will have an all male council for the first time in about 25 years on the eve of Aragon’s centennial – 1914 to 2014,” Suffridge said.
