According to an official release from the City of Fairmount, on Wednesday, Jan. 31, Fairmount Police Officer Stanley Craig Tabor, who was off duty at the time, was taken into custody by the Georgia State Patrol for D.U.I. offenses that occurred in the City of Fairmount.
The vehicle Tabor was driving was observed failing to maintain lane on US Highway 411. Fairmount Police Chief Lane Bennett and another Fairmount officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. A short time later, the Georgia State Patrol arrived at the location and took over the investigation at the request of Chief Bennett.
According to Bennett, Tabor was taken into custody and transported to the Gordon County Jail and charged with DUI (refusal) and failure to maintain lane.
"It is so sad when we have to arrest a law enforcement officer who has violated the law," said Chief Bennett. "But when the safety and well being of the public and our children are at risk, it will always be addressed and handled regardless of who they are."
Tabor's employment with the City of Fairmount was terminated effective Jan. 31, 2018.
