The Cherokee County University of Alumni Chapter Scholarship Banquet 2017 is scheduled for Thursday, May 18, 2017, at 6 p.m., in the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce meeting room on the campus of Gadsden State Community College-Cherokee, 801 Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.

The guest speaker will be John Parker Wilson who was a three-year starter for Alabama as a quarterback from 2006-09.

During his sophomore season, he threw for over 200 yards in the first seven games of the season, setting a new school record, and finished with a school record nine 200-yard games.

In his senior season, Wilson led the Crimson Tide to a 12–2 season. In the regular season finale, he led Alabama to 36–0 victory over in-state rival Auburn, ending a six-game losing streak to the Tigers, according to biographical information.

When his career at Alabama ended, Wilson held every significant passing record in Alabama school history and still holds the record for completions in a single-season.

He was signed as a free agent in 2009 and spent four years in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville

Jaguars and Pittsburgh Steelers.

He currently lives in Birmingham with his wife, Tyler and is a financial adviser with Sterne Agee.

This year’s incoming UA scholarship recipients will be recognized as well.
