SAND ROCK – The Sand Rock Wildcats swept a Class 2A, Area 11 varsity basketball doubleheader with visiting Gaston on Tuesday.

The seventh-ranked Lady Wildcats improved to 17-1 (4-0 area) with a 54-19 victory. The Wildcat boys earned a 53-43 win in the nightcap to improve to 7-8 (2-2 area).

In the girls’ game Leslie Mackey netted 10 points. Courtney Rowe, Madison Smith, Ashley Norris and Jolonna Silva all contributed eight points.

Rowe also had four rebounds, four steals and three assists. Smith added four rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Norris also came away with four boards and two steals. Silva added four steals, three assists and two rebounds.

In the boys’ game Chase Garrett’s 14 points led the charge for the Wildcats. Dylan Mackey added 10 points and Caylon Simpson finished with nine points.

Sand Rock welcomes Ider on Thursday.

Hokes Bluff sweeps Cherokee County

HOKES BLUFF – Autumn Aloi posted 10 points and 10 rebounds, but they weren’t enough to lead the Cherokee County Lady Warriors at Class 4A, No. 10 Hokes Bluff on Tuesday. The final was 53-30.

Jessen Burk added seven points and three boards for the Lady Warriors (6-8, 1-3 Area 11).

Hannah Evans led Hokes Bluff (14-4, 3-1) with 20 points, six boards and four assists. Carlie Shields finished with 18 points and nine assists.

In the boys’ game, Cherokee County suffered its first area setback to the No. 10 Eagles, losing by the final of 55-32. Isaac Haas led Hokes Bluff (15-5, 4-0) with 19 points. The Warriors dropped to 7-6 and 3-1 in area play.

Cherokee County travels to Alexandria on Friday.
