MONTGOMERY – The North girls beat the South 4-1 and the North boys posted a 5-2 win at Emory Folmar Soccer Complex to sweep the competition at the 21st AHSAA Summer Conference and All-Star Sports Week Tuesday night in Montgomery.
In the girls game, North MVP Hailey Whitaker of Oak Mountain scored two goals as the winners improved to 13-2-1 in the series that dates back to 1997. The South took the early lead with Kate Eubanks of McGill-Toolen scoring on an assist from her own Yellow Jacket teammate Chloe Martin just seven minutes into the match.
Vestavia Hills’ Faith Hauberg tied the match at a goal apiece 19 minutes later. Whitaker gave the North the lead at intermission with a goal at the 29:50 mark. She got an assist from Hauberg.
Whitaker’s second goal came at 59:40 in the second half. Maddison Martin of Chelsea scored the final goal with just 3 ½ minutes left in the match.
Eubanks was named MVP for the South.
North goalkeeper Elena Register of Hoover had three goals. Courtnie Trapp of Benjamin Russell and Bailey Cameron Enterprise had 5 and 4 saves, respectively, for the South.
