JACKSONVILLE - Greg Seitz has been named as interim athletic director at Jacksonville State University, President Dr. William A. Meehan announced on Thursday.
Seitz will be serving in the role after Warren Koegel announced his resignation after spending the last three-plus years as the Gamecocks' Athletic Director.
"I want to thank Dr. Meehan and our Board of Trustees for the opportunity to serve during this transition period," Seitz said. "We have so many good things going on in our athletic department right now and I just want to continue to keep the athletic department running smoothly until a permanent athletic director is named."
Dr. Meehan did not name a permanent replacement for Koegel and said the University's new president would make the decision when he or she is selected and takes over this summer. Seitz has previously served as interim athletic director twice over the last four years.
Seitz acknowledged Koegel, saying, "We are certainly going to miss Coach Koegel. I have learned so much from working under his leadership and I would like to wish Coach and Elaine the best in their retirement."
Seitz has been with JSU since 1993, when he began working as assistant sports information director. In 1999, he became Sports Information Director, and then promoted to Associate Athletic Director in 2002. He was then promoted to Senior Associate Athletic Director in 2011, and he also handles game day operations for football, basketball and baseball.
Seitz, who has served on the NCAA Men's Final Four Media Coordinator team for the last six years, also has worked numerous NCAA Championships and Alabama High School Athletic Association events over the last 21 years. In 2002, he became the first SID elected as President of the Alabama Sportswriters Association, and currently serves as the organizations secretary and treasure.
