The town of Cedar Bluff had a special called Council meeting on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 2 p.m. with all Council members present.

At the meeting Mayor Martha Baker turned in her 30 day resignation effective immediately, makng her last day June 9. The Mayor stated no reason for her departure.

Also Town Clerk Chelsey Chandler resigned at the meeting with no reason for her departure. The assistant town clerk resigned at this meeting as well.

The Council set a time for posting the jobs for Mayor, Town Clerk, and Assistant Town Clerk for seven working days from the May 19, which will be close of business on Thursday, May 29, 2014.

The Mayor informed the council she had appointed Council member Billie Burkhalter to serve as Mayor Pro-tem, however, she asked the Council members to set that appointment aside so that a new interim Mayor could appoint their own Pro-tem. The Council agreed to this and appointed Council member Tammy Crane as Mayor Pro-tem.

The only item on the meeting agenda was the revision of Liberty Day 2014. The Council came to a unanimous decision that the town could not handle having this event this year financially. But, between donations and grants there will be enough to save the fireworks. The town is in discussion and the Fire Department is still debating over having their annual BBQ. This will be decided at the next meeting. So, this year’s Liberty Day celebration will be hosted at night with fireworks over the lake.

The next scheduled town meeting is on June 9, 2014 at 5:30 p.m.
