MONTGOMERY - Spring Garden junior pitcher Kerstin Bryant tossed a one-hitter and also helped herself at the plate Thursday in the Lady Panthers' 1-0 victory over Ragland in the Class 1A state softball tournament at Lagoon Park.

Bryant accounted for the game's only run with a RBI-single to left that drove in Payton McGinnis in the bottom of the first inning. McGinnis walked to lead off the inning for the Lady Panthers (28-16).

Sammie Day-Jones had the only hit for the Lady Devils (17-18). She delivered a lead off single in the top of the fourth, but Bryant rallied to retire the side.

Bryant, McGinnis and Macy Reedy each had a hit for the Lady Panthers. Payton Traffanstedt, Kalista Free and Abbie Steward each had a walk.

Makenley Oliver suffered the loss for Ragland.

The Lady Panthers advance to face Brantley at 7 p.m. Thursday. Brantley blanked Waterloo 14-0 in other opening round Class 1A action. Ragland will face Waterloo in the losers bracket at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
