BASKETBALL: Sand Rock, Spring Garden girls maintain rankings; Collinsville boys drop

The Alabama Sportswriters Association released the first basketball poll of the new year late Wednesday evening. The Sand Rock Lady Wildcats (17-1) and the Spring Garden Lady Panthers (14-2) pick up where they left off in 2013. Both remain at No. 7 and No. 5 in Class 2A and Class 1A respectively.

Sand Rock hosts Ider on Thursday. Spring Garden hosts Class 2A, No. 1 Woodland (14-1) on Tuesday.

In the Class 1A boys’ rankings, Collinsville (13-6) dropped four spots to No. 8. The Panthers host Coosa Christian on Friday.
