High school baseball's postseason is scheduled to being this weekend, with six of the qualifying field from The Herald's coverage area.

One of those teams is the Class 4A Cherokee County Warriors (20-8), who have one regular-season game left to be played on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Fort Payne. The game was originally scheduled for Monday, but was rained out.

Following Wednesday's season finale, the Warriors will travel to Danville on Friday in first-round playoff action. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. A third game, if necessary, is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The state playoffs will begin a day early for the Class 2A Sand Rock Wildcats (9-12). They open the playoffs on Thursday at Section with a doubleheader scheduled for 4:30 and 7 p.m. If the series reaches a third game, the two teams will play Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Class 1A schools Spring Garden (18-6), Cedar Bluff (15-12) and Gaylesville (15-8) all begin the playoffs on Friday. Spring Garden hosts Vina in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Cedar Bluff hosts Holy Spirit in a doubleheader at 4:30 p.m., while Gaylesville travels to South Lamar for a doubleheader also at 4:30 p.m.

If any of those series reaches a decisive game three, those are all scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. at the respective sites.

One other area team is hosting its first-round playoff series: Class 3A Piedmont (19-10). The Bulldogs will take on New Hope with a doubleheader on Friday at 5 p.m. A third game, if necessary, is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m.
