Tarvin, Florence in runoff for Georgia House 2 seat

Here are results of Tuesday’s election for the state House 2 seat: Steve Tarvin, 1,072 votes (38 percent); Neal Florence, 964 votes (34 percent); Doug Woodruff, 774 votes, 28 percent.

This special election is necessary to replace Jay Neal, who has been appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal to a position with the state’s Department of Corrections, where he will serve as executive director of the Governor’s Office of Transition, Support and Re-entry.

House District 2 includes the southern precincts of Walker County, from Rock Spring south and east to Armuchee Valley, as well as three precincts in southern Catoosa County and three precincts in western Whitfield County.

Investigation into allegations of sexual assault results in two arrested, charged with rape

According to Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston, on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, deputy sheriffs received a report of an alleged sexual assault involving two assailants against a female under the age of eighteen. Sheriff’s detectives initiated an investigation into the matter that same day.  They conducted a number of interviews with witnesses as well as obtained certain physical evidence. The alleged assault is believed to have taken place on Feb. 4/5 at a third party residence near Calhoun.
