A Catoosa County man is out of the hospital and in jail facing multiple assault charges following a five-hour standoff with authorities on New Year's Day, which ultimately ended with him surrendering.

According to the Catoosa County Sheriff's Department:

Alvin Truitt Bonner, 52, of 98 Summit Drive in Ringgold was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 2 on 10 counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, two counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm while attempting to commit a crime. His bond was set at $32,500.

Deputies and detectives were called out to the Bonner residence at approximately 8:30 p.m. New Year's Day regarding shots fired.

Bonner's wife and daughter were outside the home claiming he'd threatened them with a gun and was threatening to kill himself, reports show.

Detectives were able to talk to Bonner via cell phone, at which time he threatened that he would need to be killed by law enforcement and even wielded a gun in each hand.

Deputies closed off Summit Drive as a precaution and continued to negotiate with Bonner, who pointed his gun at officers and threatened to shoot propane tanks that were in his possession.

Eventually, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Bonner exited the home and surrendered.

He was transported via Angel EMS to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, where he stayed until Thursday, Jan. 5, when he was then booked into Catoosa County jail.
