The LaFayette Police Department and The Bank of LaFayette recently partnered with the Walker County Department of Family and Children Services to collect book bags, toiletries items, clothes and stuffed animals to donate to foster children within the county.
About 60 book bags were donated by residents and officers, while residents gave toiletries and stuffed animals at The Bank of LaFayette.
DFACS had provided a list of needed items, officials said.
LaFayette Police Capt. Stacey Meeks thanked the public for their generosity in making these donations.
Officials said many children taken from their homes do not have these items when they are placed in foster care. The goal of this combined effort was to give these children a helping hand by providing items for school and everyday life.
