Sarah Marie Aslinger, 57

East Ridge

Sarah Marie Aslinger of East Ridge died Dec. 18, 2013 at her home. She was 57.

She lived all of her life in the Chattanooga area where she graduated from Kirkman High School.

Following her high school graduation, Sarah went to Tennessee Temple University and received her nursing degree from the Chattanooga School of Practical Nursing. She was a nurse and office manager for Drs. Kemp and Avitabile and worked in the medical field for over 30 years.

She was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church for over 25 years but most recently became a member of Harvest Bible Chapel. She was very active in the Children’s Ministry in both churches.

Her passions in life were being a nurse and living out her Christian faith.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Geneva Barnette; and fiancé, Foster Powell.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Tim “Timmy” and Jessica Aslinger; God children, Mindy (Bo) Henley and Steven (Crystal) Davenport, and their children, Emma, Cara, Maddie, Tyler, Halie, and Darius whom she loved and cherished; her two beloved dogs, Harper and Vic.

Funeral service: Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Ridgeview Baptist Church.

James Ralph Newberry, 69

Rossville

James Ralph Newberry of Rossville died Dec. 20, 2013. He was 69.

He was born in Ringgold to the late Ralph Newberry and Ethel Noblett.

He was a member of Rossville Tabernacle Baptist Church.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bill Newberry.

Survivors include his significant other, Wanda Newberry of Rossville; stepchildren, Crystal Miller of Dunlap, James Bice of Pikeville; siblings, Bo Newberry of Rock Spring, Pat Prescott of Tunnel Hill, Edith Smith, Martha Bush, Beverly lane, Brenda Wint, Tom Noblett, Rita Noblett all of Georgia; 7 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service: Monday, Dec. 23 at 7 p.m. in the funeral home parlor. Visitation: Monday, Dec. 23 from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are by W.L. Wilson and sons Funeral Homes-Fort Oglethorpe.

Lavanson Charles Hawley, 63

Trenton

Lavanson Charles “Chuck” Hawley of Trenton died Friday, Dec. 20, 2013 at his residence. He was 63.

A native of Springfield, Ill., he had spent several years in California and the past 30 years in the Trenton area.

He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Sheri Edwards Hawley.

Survivors include two sons, Andy and Scott Hawley; sister, Pat (Ralph) Eide; step-children, Desiree Moore, David and Danny Lane; three grandsons and one granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held at Woodlawn Baptist Church at a time to be announced later.

Larry Wade Calaway, 59

Rossville

Larry Wade Calaway of Rossville died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 in a local hospital. He was 59.

He was an employee of AutoZone for 20 years and was of the Baptist faith.

He loved drag racing, watching and participating in his grandson’s baseball team, the Rossville Panthers, and was a member of Team Gramps.

He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Thomas Calaway; parents, Wade Thomas and Stella Maxine Calaway; sister, Vicki Lynn Brewer.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Tate Calaway; sons, Larry R. Calaway and Chris (Tonya) Tate; daughters, Mary Beth Calaway and Danielle (James) Branam; grandson, Isaiah “Little Monkey” Blackburn; brother, Gary (Stacy) Quinn and sister-in-law, Paula (Jim) Hill; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services: Tuesday, Dec. 24 at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jim Hill officiating. Burial: Chattanooga Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation: Monday, Dec. 23 from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Robin Michelle Sutton Seymour, 52

Rossville

Robin Michelle Sutton Seymour of Rossville died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 in a local hospital. She was 52.

She grew up in the Fairview Community of Rossville and was a graduate of Rossville High School where she served as majorette and was a member of the band.

Following residencies in Crossville, Tenn. and Georgetown, Texas, she returned to Rossville and was employed by Assemblies, Inc.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dewey Lee and Maude Sutton, Sr., and Gilford T. and Lena M. Adams; father, D.L. Sutton, Jr.; and brother, Kevin Lee Sutton, Sr.

Survivors include her husband, Steve Seymour; son, Adam Tyler Beene; daughter, Andrea Beene (Travis) Alford; mother, Janice Sutton (Cecil) Harris; sister, Deborah Sutton (Danion) “Smitty” Smith; grandchildren, Dahlia, Ian, Davion, Makinze, and Baylee; special step-children, Chanavi, Tara, Sarah and Amy; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Homer Manuel Miller, 86

Ringgold

Homer Manuel Miller of Ringgold died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013 at his residence. He was 86.

A native of Ellijay, he was a charter member of Anchor of Hope Baptist Church and was a retired driver from Atlanta Motor Lines.

His passions were traveling the country, spending winter months in Florida, fishing, hunting, and his church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Joann Davenport Miller; his parents, Arthur and Georgia Miller; great-granddaughter, Olivia Ashleigh Johnson; seven sisters and one brother.

Survivals include his children, Linda (David) Whitaker and Barbara (Randall) Johnson, all of Ringgold; brother, Otis Miller of Independence, Mo.; grandchildren, David Whitaker, Jr., Joey Whitaker, and Rodney (Rebecca) Johnson; three great-grandchildren, Brenna Whitaker, Corbin Johnson and Gavin Johnson; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service: Monday, Dec. 23 at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Brian Haney officiating. Burial: Thursday, Dec. 26 at 2 p.m. at the Ozion Baptist Church Cemetery, Blue Ridge. Visitation: Monday, Dec. 23 from 2 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home. Mr. Miller will lie-in-state Thursday, Dec. 26 from 1-2 p.m. at Ozion Baptist Church.

Lena Mae York Flegal, 67

LaFayette

Lena Mae York Flegal of LaFayette died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013. She was 67.

She was born to the late James Newborn York and Etta Lorene Liles York on Sept. 28, 1946 in Valley Head, Ala.

She was of the Christian faith and she enjoyed painting, drawing and bible studies. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Mack" Flegal and two sisters, Linda Jean York and Sue Garrett.

Survivors include two children, Kim (Matt Allbritton) Flegal and Robert Brian Flegal; sister, Betty Jo York; brother, Leonard (Sherryl) York, all of LaFayette; three grandchildren, Chris Flegal, Nikki Pettigrew and Blake Reynolds; five great grandchildren, Madison, Benji, Parker, Grey and Russell,

Funeral service: Friday, Dec. 27 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor David Rayburn officiating. Burial: Fuller Cemetery, Ider, Ala. Visitation: Thursday, Dec. 26 from 12-9 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lamar Swaney, 83

Rossville

Lamar Swaney of Rossville died Dec. 23, 2013. He was 83.

He was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather who valued God and family above all.

He taught his family about the love of God and salvation through Christ.

He is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Betty Anita Mullican Swaney; his loving parents, Dave and Hazel Swaney; brothers, Roy, Dennis, David, Darrell, Bobby, Kenneth Swaney and one much loved sister, Darlene Crowe.

Survivors include his loving family, daughters, Deborah Jean Swaney, Wanda Faye Swaney, Marsha (Paul) Davis, all of Rossville, daughter, Sandra Denise (Steve) Motley of Kensington; and one treasured son, David Lamar Swaney of Rossville; grandchildren, Steven L. (Tiffany) Motley, Ariel Motley, Jake Motley, Aubrey Davis, Gabriel Davis, Sapphira Davis and four great-grandchildren, Lanie, Channah and Allie Seiber and Kytilyn Elliott, brother, Eddie (Margaret) Swaney and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service: will be held on Friday, Dec. 27 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. David Thompson and Rev. Paul Davis officiating. Burial: Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park. Visitation: Thursday, Dec. 26 from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Taylor Ross Eberhardt, 23

Chickamauga

Taylor Ross Eberhardt of Chickamauga died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013. He was 23.

He was born in Decatur, and had resided most of his life in Chickamauga.

He was a graduate of Gordon Lee High School Class of 2008 where he played baseball for the Trojans.

He was a baseball fan of the Atlanta Braves and also an Alabama Crimson Tide fan.

He had worked in construction work for several years.

He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Rossville and had also attended South Rossville Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Billy and Shirley McCoy and Oliver Grantham. He was a wonderful loving husband, father, son and brother who enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Meagan Cunningham Eberhardt; their daughters, Reagan and Kennedy Eberhardt; parents, Ross and Lorrie McCoy Eberhardt; sister, Jennifer Eberhardt; brother, Travis Eberhardt all of Chickamauga; grandmother, Marilyn Grantham of Lavonia; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation: Thursday, Dec. 26 from 1-8 p.m. and Friday morning after 10 a.m. prior to the service. Funeral service: Friday, Dec. 27 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastors Rocky Bradford and Derrell O'Neal officiating. Burial: Chickamauga Cemetery.
