Two Gordon Lee Trojans have advanced to the state championship match in Class 1A, while one Ringgold Tiger will be trying for state gold in Class 3A.
Gordon Lee sophomore 106-pounder Hunter Burnette (34-6) scored a 5-4 win in the semifinals in Macon on Friday and will wrestle for his first state title on Saturday afternoon. His opponent will be Irwin County freshman Gunner Willingham (22-2).
Meanwhile, senior Braden Jarvis is now 41-0 after a 7-5 victory in his semifinal match. Jarvis, now a three-time state finalist, will look to finally get his first state crown when he takes on Commerce senior Braxton Legg (25-7) on Saturday in the 170-pound final.
Two more seniors, Jarrett Lassetter (160) and Caleb Vines (220), both lost in the semifinals, but are still alive for third place in their weight classes.
As for the Tigers, Griffin Green (145) will be trying for state championship No. 2 when the senior takes his 42-2 record into Saturday's final against Lumpkin County sophomore Nolan Wheeler (29-7). Green won his semifinal match with a pin (2:36).
Ringgold junior Holden Moss (132) lost a close decision in his semifinal bout, but can still claim third place.
Semifinals in Class 4A will be held later this afternoon. Results will be posted on northwestgeorgianews.com later tonight.
