Friday was a very successful day for the Ridgeland Mat Panthers at the Deep South Bayou Duals in Baton Rogue, Louisiana as the Black-and-White went 4-0 and won the consolation bracket.
Ridgeland defeated four more Louisiana teams in the process to finish the tournament with a 6-3 record.
The Panthers defeated Southern University Laboratory School (66-6) and Acadiana (50-24) before avenging a Thursday loss to Fontainebleau (39-31). They capped the day with a 45-27 win over John Curtis Christian in the consolation finals.
Evan Burnette (152 pounds), Dylan Swanson (160) and Ryan McGill (170/182) were both 4-0 with three pins, while Jordan Hughley went 4-0 with two pins and a technical fall. Garrett Romans (106) was 3-1 with three pins, Ethan Morgan (195/220) was 3-1 with two pins and Hunter Smith (126) and Aiden Raymer (132) were both 30-1 with one pin.
Kyle Brown (170) was 2-1 with one pin. Preston Perrault (113/120) went 2-2 with a pair of pins and Dagon Turner (113/120) was 2-2 with one pin. Dylan Fowler (182) had a pin in his only match, while T.J. Adkins wrestled at 285 for the Panthers.
Jefferson (Ga.) won the championship bracket with a 60-15 win over Pigeon Forge (Tenn.). The Dragons went 8-0 over the weekend with eight blowout victories, never giving up more than 15 points in any of their matches.
