The Ridgeland Mat Panthers traveled all the way to Louisiana to begin wrestling in the Deep South Bayou Duals on Thursday.
Ridgeland went 2-3 in pool matches against five different clubs from Louisiana. They defeated North Vermilion (53-24) and Archbishop Hannan (64-18), but they suffered tough losses to Saint Amant (41-28), Fontainebleau (42-39) and perennial powerhouse Brother Martin (48-28).
Jordan Hughley went 5-0 for the Panthers wrestling at both 138 and 145 pounds. He finished with one technical fall, a pair of major decisions and two pins.
Ryan McGill won four matches on the day. He had three pins and claimed another victory via forfeit while wrestling at both 170 and 182 pounds on the day. Evan Burnett (152) had three pins and one minor decision, while Dylan Swanson (160) had three pins and two forfeits as he finished 5-0.
Aiden Raymer (132) and Ethan Morgan (195) each won three matches, all by pin. Hunter Smith (126) won two matches by pin and added a major decision, while Daegan Turner had two pins and a forfeit victory at 113.
Garrett Romans (106) had two pins and a win by forfeit, while Kyle Brown (170/182) added a pin for the Panthers.
Ridgeland will start wrestling in the consolation brackets on Friday. First up will be Southern University Laboratory School, another Louisiana squad.
