If the Heritage Generals are to win the Class AAAA State Duals later this season, Woodward Academy is one of the teams they will likely have to go through.
Just like they did on Monday.
Wrestling at Woodward in the Early Bird Duals, the Generals went 4-0, including taking down the host War Eagles in the finals. Woodward has two returning state champions on its roster, both of which are nationally-ranked in their respective weight classes.
The Navy-and-Red opened with a 35-33 win over Hiram before coasting to easy wins over Forest Park (78-5) and Druid Hills (72-9). They capped the day with solid 43-33 victory over Woodward to take home the title.
Ryan Craft (106 pounds) and Seth Ingle (152) were both 4-0 with three pins, while Nathan Boatman (120) and Spencer Davies (170) were each 4-0 with one pin on the afternoon. Garett Stephens (138) was 4-0 with a pin and a technical fall. Zaine Burton also won all four of his matches, three at 285 and once at 220.
Josh Shadwick (145), Alex Eacret (182) and Drake Parker (195) were all 3-1, while Shadwick and Eacret each had one pin. Zach Brown (220) was 2-1. Jadyn Norton (113) was 2-2 and Tyler Tomey (132) was 2-2 with one pin.
The Generals are now 7-4 in dual matches so far this season. They will continue their season this Saturday as they host their own dual tournament.
